Duty means obligation. `Duty’ comes from the word `due’ giving what is due. Duty is the thing that is due. Due means a debt. Thus in short, duty means a thing that you have to do; or something you are bound to fulfill.
No man lives alone. He is a social being. Whatever he does is related to others.
You have many kinds of duties to do daily. You first and foremost duty is towards God. you must thank God daily for His wonderful gifts to you; Gifts of love, gifts of parents, gift of good school, gifts of friends, gifts of your talents and abilities.
You have duties towards your parents and elders. To obey them, to respect them are your duties. You have duties towards each other. To be friendly with one another is our duty. To be happy and cheerful with your friends is also your duty.
You have a great duty towards your motherland. Our great larders showed the way how to love one’s country, how to live for one’s country, how to die for one’s country. They valued the nation’s progress rather than personal comforts. The great leaders like Gandhi, Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose and many more loved the country much more than their own lives.
The welfare of our fellowmen is our duty. One must do one’s duties with love and not by compulsion or by force.
Sometimes people neglect their duties. They go to offices but never do their duties. They waste their duty time in idle talking. As a student have the duty of studying hard with correct motivation or planning. A teacher’s duty is to inculcate values in the young minds. Thus duties vary from person to person.
As you grow, realize your duties and responsibilities. A dutiful person is truthful in his words and actions.
Grow with a sense of duty. That is the essence of your personality. The more you are dutiful, the more you will be accepted and honored. The person who neglect his or her duties has no character, has no personality. Then he or she is a cheat. He cheats his fellowmen, his country and himself. He can never be happy. He wastes his life for his own selfish motives.
Sense of duty is the crown of your character. So never go away from the real path. Be dutiful always.
