It is painful to see that we care more for our rights than for our duties. It truly applies to the railway users. They should always bear in mind that rights and duties go hand in hand. It is general complaint that trains run late and they are over - crowded. The facilities of light and fan are often denied. Do we ever think that we are greatly responsible for all these inconveniences ?
To travel in trains with inflammable articles is prohibited because it endangers life and property of the fellow travelers. It also cause great loss to the public property. We also ignore the warning of not leaving the burning ends of cigarettes and bidies. We throw these ends in the compartments. Sometimes due to these acts of carelessness a running train catches fire. Many persons die, many of them become crippled. The scene is very fearful. Many of them become orphans. Many ladies are deprived of their husbands. Thus this little carelessness on or part may ruin the lives of so many of them.
We also complain that railway administration is responsible for running the trains late because it does not take any action against the staff responsible for it. We daily see how persons pull the danger chain or cut hose - pipe to detain the train. This causes great inconvenience to travelers. Many miss their interviews, many of them miss to catch the connecting train at the next Railway Junction. Many of them die because the sick persons fail to reach the doctor in time. If all of us realize it, the late running of trains can be checked.
We often complain, the trains are overcrowded. Many of us travel without tickets. Many of us travel by a train we are not entitled to travel in. Many of us travel with luggage, we could do without. Many of us sleep on berths and do not allow others to sit.
In the same way many of us damage the bulbs and fans of the railway compartment. They use their own mechanism with these fittings and make them out of order. It is also a complaint that latrines are often dirty and water facility is not available. We are often responsible for it. We do not make proper use of latrines and often leave the tap open.
All these inconveniences can be removed if railway users are alive to their duties and perform them well. If this is done, our railway journey will be safe and free from anxiety.
