For a man both physical and moral courage are necessary. There is, however, a wide difference between the two. The examples of physical courage are wrestlers, fighters, boxers and matadors. The examples of moral courage are found in the great personalities of Swami Vivekananda and mahatma Gandhi. Both of them were not physically powerful but their moral courage was of a very high order. Physical courage can be acquired through physical exercise. Mental courage can be acquired by exercising the mind which infuses moral courage. It is a widely known fact that, for cultivating moral courage, it is necessary to keep away from the desires of the material world. If the temptations of wealth, power and wealth are foregone, one gets enormous strength. Such strength can be used in a humanitarian way. Those who have used physical courace have been labled as tyrants and despots and murderers of humanity. Moral courage is more powerful than physical courage. Moral courage takes the shape of will power in man. By his will power, Mahatma Gandhi was able to uproot the mighty power of the Britishers from India. Moral courage wins at the cost of physical courage.
