Vatican City
Vatican City is referred as Holy See but both are considered as different place in Vatican. Vatican City considered as the most sacred place. It is situated within the city of Rome , in Italy. Vatican City is the smallest country in the world in both area wise and population wise. Area of Vatican city is 0.44square km and population is around 821. Official language spoken are Latin and Italian. Currency used in Vatican is Euro. Vatican coins are very rare as notes are not used and hence Vatican Euro coins are largely collected.
Areas to visit - The most popular area for tourists are Basilica of St. Peter and Vatican Museums.
Basilica of St. Peter -Basilica of St. Peter is the church with largest interior in the world. It is considered as one of the holiest church to ever visit. It is a huge church located near the river Tiber.
Vatican Museums - There are numerous museums to visit in Vatican City. Some of them are -
Museum of Modern Religious Art - This museum has the collection of numerous paintings, sculptures and engravings which were donated by people around and artists. In 1973 this museum was inaugurated by Pope Paul VI
Egyptian Museum - This museum consist of inscriptions of ancient times like mummies. It is designed to interpret the forms of Egyptian statuary and historic Roman ceramics.
Vatican World War - Vatican city is ruled by Pope, who is the head of the Catholic Church. During World war II, city of Rome was occupied by Germans in 1943 but Vatican city was occupied by them. During that time Pope Pius XII was under the leadership who wanted to prevent any war and bombing in Vatican and he protested against British for the same.USA and British opposed bombing in Vatican as they had fear of affecting the catholic religion and then Rome was declared as Open City.
Government and Politics of Vatican - Vatican City is considered as independent state and head of the state is Pope who has legislative, executive and judicial powers. Pope delegates the administration work to various bodies and officials. The officers are appointed by Pope every five years. Vatican City does not have any diplomatic service, it is Holy See who conducts all the international and diplomatic services.
Financially, Vatican City is supported by the Roman Catholic Church all over the world like selling the stamps and coins and the fees that tourists pay for visit to Vatican.
