TANG SOO DOO – KOREAN MARTIAL ARTS
Tang Soo Doo is the Korean form of martial arts. Tang refers to T’ang dynasty of china which shares the cultural background between China and Korea. Soo means strike or defense. Doo means the art of life. Tang Soo Doo is the martial art training where a person becomes more self- aware, develops conscious awareness and able to control himself mentally, emotionally and physically. Hwang Kee is the grandmaster of this art who promoted Tang Soo Doo.
It is commonly seen that the women lack self – protection as they are not strong enough as compared to opposite person and as a result she is always attacked by the stronger person who can be a stranger, her husband, boyfriend, father or any one. At this time it is necessary to develop your self - confidence and protect yourself but usually it is not possible because we are not use to such conditions. That’s the reason you must learn some self- defense techniques to overcome this situation. This is what Tang Soo Doo teaches us.
History of Tang Soo Doo
This name was given by Won Kuk, Lee. Lee studied Karate –Do in Japan. The word Karate-do was replaced with the word Tang Soo Doo in Seoul, Korea.
Aim of Tang Soo Doo

• Self-defense – It helps you to protect yourself and your loved ones any physical attack.
• Better Health – It provides good physical, mental and emotional health.
There are some martial art training programs which help you to achieve this aim. As you take the training you get the different color belt which represents your rank. The types of color belts are-
• White belt – It represents the beginning of knowledge. It is given to the beginners.
• Yellow belt – It represents the day with sunlight and new growth. It means you moved ahead from white to yellow belt and has potential to move ahead.
• Orange belt – It represents heat on the earth to prepare the new growth. It means growth of your potential to move more ahead.
• Green belt – It represents the speedy growth of summer. It means you have different type of knowledge and expanding in the same direction.
• Red Belt – It represents the energy and more active.
• Blue Belt – It represents the mature plant. It means you have good enough knowledge to protect yourself and others.
• Black Belt – It represents a tree that is fully matured. It means you have self-mastery and reached a level where your knowledge is vast.
This art is not just achieving the higher belts but it is more of protecting yourself and others and also developing self - awareness in the critical situation.
