Sometimes workers do not resume work until their demands are accepted by the employer.Thus , Strike is a
planned refusal of work. Workers go on strike to press for demands like better working conditions and more
wages.
Strikes began with the machine age. The idea that workers should be paid well, if they are not, They should be
demand it.Strikes means by which workers can agitate for better working conditions and fair wages. However
strike can be quite harmful.Sometimes workers demands are unreasonable. They resort to violence to achieve
their ends. During a strike the employees have to go without wages. Their families suffer hardships and
undergo suffering. The company suffers a great a loss in production.Strikes lead to bitterness between the
employer and employed.
The employees of banks, railways, airports, schools, colleges, Hospitals go on strike, it causes much
inconvenience to the public.
In India, During the British rule, students and workers resorted to strikes whenever a popular leader was
arrested or if an unreasonable law was passed. After independence, Strikes have become very comman.They
are often a result of a prolonged dispute between the employers and trade unions of the employees.
Very often trade union leaders incite workers to strike to serve their own selfish interests. Political leaders,
interfere in the working of organisations and purposely create unrest.Workers should strike only as the last
resort. They should first try their utmost to discuss their problems with their employers and come to some
mutually agreeable settlement. The Government should take quick steps to avoid situations that might
turn violent. Strikes are harmful to the nation as they disrupt economic activity.
