Trust yourself and the world will trust you. Distrust in yourself will make the world distrust you.
The sirens wailed and all traffic came to a standstill in the little city of reading in Pennsylvania. The police were in hot pursuit of a young man who had robbed a jeweler shop.
The young burglar managed to enter his sister’s house, and called from behind the door, `come on, if you dare. I ma armed to the teeth.’
The house was soon surrounded by the police. Guns were pointed at the doors and the windows; fire fighters stood by and tear gas shells were held in readiness. The squads were only waiting for the signal for the attack. But that signal was never given.
Charles Wade, the detective in charge of the police force, saw that only destruction and bloodshed would be the outcome of such an attack. Wade walked to the door of the house and tossed his pistol to a nearby policeman. Then he shouted, `I have no fire arms. I am coming to see you.’ Saying this, he swiftly moved inside.
The policemen looked on, holding their breath. What could their chief get from a young criminal will they be able to save his life the robber attacked suddenly/ these were the questions that filed their terrified minds.
Fifteen minutes went by, one hour …. Three hours. Suddenly the master detective appeared at the door with the young delinquent following him like a pet dog.
Ti his eager men Charles said, `he was only a frightened lad. As son as I removed his gun he began to feel at ease. I told that I had to make him to court and that a penalty would be imposed on him after he had served his term.
This was Charles Wade, his work as unlike the other FBI detectives. His aim was to end the bad life of a criminal and to help him mend his evil ways. As soon as these unfortunate criminals came out of jail, Charles always took them to his private factory and helped them to start a new life.
Charles Wade himself was the son of a mason. At the age of fourteen, he left school to begin work as a shoemaker, sailor, mechanic…. He then left all these careers in turn because he was destined to be a detective. In due course he was able to start his own business.
