Courage is also a noble virtue. It helps man to learn to face the harsh relation of life. The stream of life never runs smooth. Various problems crop up in course of time. They disturb the smooth tenor of life. They affect our mental peace and poise. A coward tries to escape from such problems one way or other. But only the brave and courageous people face them boldly. They always take the problems as a challenge and finally overcome them. They are least disturbed or perturbed in the fight. They are not scared by the magnitude or the number of problems they face. Such an attitude distinguishes a man of courage from a coward.
But remember, courage is different from physical strength. It is not just physique. A courageous man need not be a robust personality. Even a lean and weak person can display exceptional courage. You al know about the father of our nation. You all know about the father of our nation. Mahatma Gandhi was just lean and weak physically. But he could shake the foundations of the white rule in South Africa. He could lead the freedom struggle and drive away the British rulers from our country. His courage was to be found in his heart and mind. His dedication to a just cause and his strong will and determination gave him that extraordinary courage.
Many seekers of truth exhibited this moral courage in the past. Socrates drank a cup-full of poison in his efforts to drive away ignorance. Galileo was blinded for his belief. All those that followed them were strongly determined to make this world a better place to live in. we are all highly indebted to those seekers of truth. But for such people, human civilization could not have progressed to the present state.
You need courage to be honest and sincere. Today a number of brave men are exploring the depths of the ocean to unravel the secrets of nature. A good number of brave men are flying into space, exploring the unknown regions. They are undertaking these adventures at great risk to their lives. Thousands off soldiers are guarding the borders of our country. They are prepared to lay down their lives in the service of their country.
Courage without wisdom is always dangerous. You must be ready to exhibit your extraordinary courage only when it is required or when it is essential. Unnecessary display of courage is foolishness. Your courage should always have a purpose and direction.
