One day Mr. Reddy was down with fever. She needed some medicines. When Mr. Reddy left for office, she gave him the names of a few tablets asked him to bring them when came back from the office. Poor Mr. Reddy! How was he to remember that his wife was not well after a busy day in the office? He did not forget that his wife had asked him to bring something. What could she have asked him except to get some vegetables to cook at night? So, with Mrs. Reddy still in bed waiting for her husband to bring the medicines, Mr. Reddy brought a basketful of his favorite vegetables to be cooked by his wife for dinner. Ultimately after two more rounds of the medicine shop because he could not remember the name of the medicine, Mrs. Reddy managed to get the tablets at night.
Mr. Reddy had tried various ways to remember everything but somehow the harder he tried to remember the more he forgot. Mrs. Reddy was not the only one affected by Mr. Reddy’s forgetfulness. Mr. Reddy often landed in a soup.
One day his boss asked him to give a call to an important client and fix an appointment for the following week. Mr. Reddy remembered to fix an appointment but of the very same day after an hour. Now, it was his boss who was seen running around and tearing his hair off trying to figure out as to how he would manage to reach at the appointed time with all the necessary papers.
One day, one of his colleagues met with an accident. Everybody in the office visited him. Mr. Reddy could not accompany the other people. He went after everybody had left. He forgot about the accident, but he remembered that it was something special that he was to visit for. So, in order to be perfect in his behavior he bought a nice big present with a beautiful bouquet to congratulate his friend. When he reached the house, his colleague’s mother opened the door. She was very surprised to see Mr. Reddy with the gift, a bouquet and a very big smile on his face saying `Congratulations!’ in a happy tone.
Mr. Reddy tried everything to get rid of this nasty habit. He made knots in his handkerchief, where one knot meant that he had to buy bread or two knots meant that he was to take the dog out. But, somehow he managed to mix up the knots and always did the opposite of that was required of him. He then tried making lists. But, invariable he forgot the whereabouts of the list.
It was on New Year’s Eve that Mr. Reddy decided to make his New Year resolutions. He jotted down all that he wanted to do in the coming years. The first point in the list way try to remember everything at midnight when the clock struck twelve Mr. Reddy remembered to wish his wife `a very happy new year,. Mrs. Reddy was very glad that her husband did not wish her `happy Diwali’ on New Year’s Day. Mr. Reddy was very happy that he had started the New Year on a good note. He kept the list of resolutions on the table and went off to bed. Early next morning as he was searching for his pair of socks in the cupboard Mrs. Reddy gave him a list of provisions to be bought from the provisions store. Mr. Reddy gladly took the list and kept it neatly on the pile of clothes. He closed the cupboard and went off to get ready.
After breakfast he took the list from the table and went to the market to get the provisions for the house. As he was entering the supermarket, he happened to meet his friend Mr. Ramesh Reddy and the two men started talking Mr. Reddy gave the list to the storekeeper and asked him to get the things out as early as possible. The storekeeper gave the list to the sales boy and ordered him to attend to the customer promptly. As it was getting late Mr. Reddy reminded the storekeeper of the list. The storekeeper turned to ask the sales boy. He stopped short when he saw the boy’s face. The poor boy still had the list in his hand and was trying to figure out the contents. The storekeeper asked him to bring the list to him.
After pondering over it for some minutes the storekeeper ran to Mr. Reddy saying, `I think there has been some mistake sir?’ `Mistake what kind of mistake are you talking about? You are not prompt in you service. I will go to the other store. Here I have been waiting for so long and you have not been able to give me the things I want.’ The storekeeper quietly handed the list to Mr. Reddy. One look at the list and Mr. Reddy was seen twisting and turning in embarrassment. The list started with try to remember everything and went on with; put the pyjamas in proper place, keep the bathroom clean after having a bath and so on. Mr. Reddy could read no more he turned and vanished from the shop as quickly as possible.
