We are citizens of this country. All the national property is the public property. As cozens of this country we are the real trustees of our national property. It is our primary duty to protect it. We are not only the custodians, but trustees as well. We have to safeguard it at all costs. We have to see that no damage is done to it. Trains, railway stations, buses, post offices and telephone exchanges are a part of our public property. But unfortunately, in our country, they become targets of the anti-social elements.
While traveling in trains, we find fans; bulbs missing us also find dirty writings all over the walls of the compartments. Even taps and mirrors are found missing.
Why is it to?
Anti-social elements or beggars have snatched them away. As a result, the passengers suffer. These thieves do not bother about the inconvenience caused to the commuters. But the passengers blame the railway administration. Is it right to do so?
Of late, strikes and agitations have become regular features in our country. For one reason or the other, agitations are started. The agitators attack the trains and buses, and establishments like post offices or telephone exchanges. They are burnt down or destroyed. Why do they indulge in such arson or looting? Ultimately who are the sufferers?
The public at large are the worst victims. Extremist elements are the latest enemies of public property. In the name of social justice, or in retaliation to the police arrests, they cause heavy losses to the nation. These activities cause untold suffering and inconvenience to the people, besides loss of national property worth of millions of rupees. How long have we to bear with these losses? How long shall we have to wait till they are rebuilt or repaired? It takes long years and hundreds of crores to get back the facilities.
No cast, we are all citizens of this country. It is our duty to protect the public property. We have to realize the importance of the public utility services like trains, buses and the like. We have to see that no damage is done to them. After all, the property belongs to everyone in the country. Remember this fact and take a pledge to do your best in protecting the nation’s wealth. That is no uncommon service to our nation. Learn to ask yourself `what have done for my country?’ instead of asking `what has the nation done for me?’
