What is Koobface
Check your mail may be you get messages with video links in your accounts in social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, My space, Bebo, Friendster and Hi5 if yes than beware. If you download it than you can become the victim of this virus Koobface it is a worm that could steal critical and personal information from your computer.
The government’s India Computer Emergency Response Team (ICERT) has warned that koobface, a play on the name of social networking site Facebook, comes with an enticing tagline and spreads by spamming the contacts of the victim on networking sites.
Koobface, how it works
Koobface victims gets a message from one of their contacts inviting them to click on a video link. The link leads to an site mimicking the video sharing side, Youtube. Once there, you are asked whether you want to download software needed to watch the video. If you click yes than this worm become activated. it not only disrupts your internet experiences by sending your searches on engine like Google elsewhere and returning garbled replies, it also steals data that may have been left in your computer's memory.
How you can save yourself
The best way to save yourself is that do not click on these types of link but if you have already been Koobface the only way to protect your machine is to delete all files and registry keys that have been added by the worm. Internet users have been also advised by the government agency to install and maintain updated antivirus software, as also a desktop firewall, and block ports which are not in use.
