An author always looks forward to read the comments on his or her articles. After all, it is a feedback on his or her work and indicates what the reader think about his work. It is suppose to indicate the popularity of the article. I say suppose because nowadays in many of the websites, the columns for the comments are gradually being used for something else. The personalities of the users can be understood from the way they use this column. Let me share some of my understanding of these personalities:
Critical commentor: They are the sincere type who have actually taken out time to go through your article and have found something impressive enough to comment upon- either in your favour or against your views. But whichever side they are, their insight really helps you. They either boost your morale with their support or gives you something to think about and work on. They critically appreciates your work.
Self Promoter: Their sole intention in commenting is the self promotions. They either promote their post or websites. Again they can be of two type. The first one are diplomatic enough to hide their true intention. They will write comments of general type, something like' good post', 'Nice information', 'Thanks for sharing' etc and in the next line would post the link to the web pages they are promoting. The second type would not even bother to hide their intentions and simply post the link to their web-pages. They have not gone through your article and do not bother to hide the fact.
Abusers: They are there to spread the hate messages. The comments they write has nothing to do with the contents of the articles. They are there to simply start a personal attack to the author ( especially if that author is some celebrity) or to the particular sections of the community. They think that they are the only patriotic, sensible people around. So, they do not give a second thought before abusing the people of other community based on region, country, religion etc. They treat everyone else like a dirt. The comments is often full of slang words.
Point collectors: This type of personality is restricted to the sites like the Boddunan which tried to provide incentives to its active members by awarding points for its and every activity. This gave rise to a new breed of members who indulge in what is considered as the proverbial' killing two birds with one stone'. By clicking the link to the article and passing comments. They score points in two ways- for reading and writing comments. Never mind that they might not have read the articles at all, but they play safe by commenting something like' Nice information', 'Nice article. easy to understand. Keep it up'. If they really like it why couldn't they take out time to write which part they really liked.
Flaunter: These are the rare breed of people who like to see their name everywhere. They like to flaunt off their name and are audacious enough to write that the only reason they are commenting is to see their name. But as I mentioned, they are the rare breed. Thank God!!!
