This truth was revealed four years back in Malaysia's Penang, when I met soldiers who fought in 2nd world war. As per the history taught to us, in this six decades,India got independence due to Mahatma Gandhiji and his followers' non violent movement.Just like children's "punyakoti" story where tiger sacrifices its life, britishers' heart transformed due to non violent movements and gave us freedom!! If this has to be accepted, then we have to even accept that even Britishers were non violent!
When I was in Malaysia around 4 years back, I got an opportunity to meet soldiers who fought in 2nd world war with my father.Their description and our history books' description had no match.
story I heard there :
""When Japanese attacked, Britishers ran away immediately from Singapore and other places.Britishers were intelligent. Until Britishers were there in Singapore, they had a very luxurious life with a slave for each limb. When Japan attacked, they didn't want to fight but ran away to save their lives. When they reached main land of India, they then sent Indian army comprising of goorkhas, sikhs and marathas to fight against Japanese. When there were people like Indians to fight, why should British lose lives???these Indians defeated Japanese!! Thats how,Malaya got independence!"" (then Malaysia was called Malaya and Singapore was its capital)
Britishers' escapism and their defeat in Malaya were not new to me. I had read this in few books written by Britishers themselves! But I was not prepared for what I got to know further.
that is :
"" after the world war, lakhs of Indian soldiers who won over Japanese returned to main land of India. Britishers were frightened over this. They were not ready to fight with Indians who had just defeated the Japanese! That is why, Britishers escaped from India in just two years later!""
Then I tried to convince them : "" your imagination is wrong, Britishers left India because of Gandhiji's non violent movements."" It was great amusement for all those soldiers. They asked me "" then why didn't they leave India before itself??Gandhi and his non violent movements were there before itself, rite?? Did Japanese taught non violence lessons to them?? ""
When Britishers lost to Japanese in Singapore, their courage fell. Britishers feared that this may repeat in Indian main land too. And that is why they left India.Britishers did not have mind set of fighting with Indian who fought Japanese. This is because of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's vision and leadership. Britishers' escapism brought great revolution in soldiers' mind-set over British. They realized that white people are not something great. Based on this itself, Netaji Bose could build the "Azad Hind Fauz" or Indian national army. Incident of 1942 was the main reason for this development.
That incident was not "failure of quit india movement" but was the "fall of singapura". This is written in a book called "Singapura - war that changed the world" by British historian, James Leasor.
Famous historian R.C.Muzumdar writes in his book : Subhash Chandra Bose's INA was more effective than Mahatma Gandhi's non violence movement to gain indian independence. And I had said this, as early as 1948 itself which was against many people's assumption. But now I have got strong proof to this. This "strong proof" is the person who decided to give freedom to India! He is Lord Clement Attley, former prime minister of Britain.
This happened like this :
When P.B.Chakravarthy was governer of West Bengal,Clement Attley arrived to India for 3 days and was Guest in Raj Bhavan, governor's office. Then Chakravarthy had asked him:"what was the main reason to give independence to India". More clearly, his question was "what was the urgency to leave India when gandhi's quit India movement was total failure during world war itself?!! " The answer given by Attley is historic. And Chakravarthy explains this in a radio interview this way : ""Attley gave many reasons but the most important was Netaji Subhash Bose's activities. Due to this Indian army and navy lost its obedience towards British. Finally,I asked Attley that how effective was Gandhiji's non violent movements? Attley laughs and says M-I-N-I-M-U-M."" This can also be seen in R.C.Muzumdar's book 609-610th page.
After world war ends, British government labels INA soldiers as traitors and inquires them in Red Fort.Due to this, Indian public esp., Indian army and navy revolts. INA soldiers were seen as freedom fighters by public. There were revolts in Karachi, Jabbalpur and Mumbai by army and navy. Soldiers were neglecting officers' commands. This was nightmare for British.
Reason for this was Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's leadership. He evoked Nationalism among soldiers. Among them, he evoked that soldiers were "protectors of nation, not slaves of British". This is what even Britain's PM Attley told Chakravarthy. When Britishers lost control over army, it did not take much time for them to realize. And moreover, if revolts increased another 1857 would take place, they feared. This was also the reason why Mount Batten preponed date of granting freedom by a year!
Thus history clearly answers for the question: who brought us freedom, Gandhiji or Netaji??
