Haven't we neglected too much our feelings & intuition? Don't we rely too much our days on the power of rational thinking? I have tried to reunite these two extreme forms of decision making and they don't always agree.
What do you think & feel about this?
Agree Marko, I also think that intuition beats rational thinking by far. It handles 100 times the information, 100 times faster...
Intuition is what separates us from machines. our abilities to reason and think are in large part derived from our intuitions.
I would argue that what is sometimes called intuition is really just latent desires.
I think it's a balance. In emotional situations one perhaps needs some rationality to balance things. In situations where rationality always reigns, some intuition and emotion may be added to make sure the decision is right on all levels.
Maybe true intuition comes from the Collective Unconscious. The mass of minds have experienced this thing or this person or what not and so know something. Perhaps you are particularly open to the collective that day and you are able to pick that up, or rather access within the information that is already there.
Intuition would then have an incredibly high probability of being correct.
I think that it pretty much depends in which persons you are talking about, because while in the world the rational thinking can be much more relied today, before wasn't the opposite truth, in a much larger way than the rational thinking is today? Also, don’t many people rely pretty much more on their feelings, their impulses and wishes, visions, etc, rather than the rational way?
The intuition many times proves to be wrong, maybe just as a desire or an wrong emotional prediction. I would say that an important difference between both is, while one is result of chemical reactions in your brain, the other is information you gather and assimilate.. although both are not far from each other and in constant and large connection, being that the information you gather and the relations you make will give you feelings and your feelings will give you information that you will take form what you feel and will make relations with it as your feeling impulses you too, such as anger can make you make relations with a person which you are seeing that might make you act in an aggressive way with that person. So, if both aren't somehow the same as Joel said, I would think they are strongly related, and both also have reasons and functioning, which can represent failure, as said, the functioning of feelings or emotions make you feel anger or think that something will happen when the reasons for being angered were inaccurate or the think you though that would happen don't happen. Why and how does one gets more accurate or handles more information than another? The intuition didn't make computers, and even if they can assimilate large amount of information, possibly faster, but then again it could be pretty much more inaccurate as it didn’t examine well what’s in question, so if there is that Collective Conscious, could it possibly be largely inaccurate due to the lack of analysis on the things in question?
