India is a democratic country. In democracy, people make the government for the people. Those persons who govern the country are selected by the people. They are the representatives of general public because they are purely connected with people. They perfectly know their daily problem to live with them. So, they can solve their problem easily. Therefore, election policy is more significant in democracy for modern world. Really election is the main foundation of democracy. So there should be a liberal policy of election to make democracy strong and stable.
The election policy of India is profound liberal in the whole world. There is multi-party system in Indian democracy. At this time, there are many national parties in our country as Congress-(I), B.J.P., parties like DMK, Telugu Desham, Jharkhand, Assam Gan Parishad, Akali Dal, etc. every citizen of India has full right to contest the election for every post. There is no restriction of any kind of qualification to bound for it. Every national and regional party issues tickets to its candidates to contest the election for different posts.
The political party who gains the majority in the Parliament forms the government to rule in the Center and elected members of other parties sit in the opposition. Opposition plays very significant role in democracy. The member of opposition criticizes the errors of ruling party and thus checks the government to become dictator. It is all possible on account of election policy.
The policy is also adopted in forming the state government and local bodies of cities, towns and villages.
The persons who are elected by the public and gain majority rule in states, local bodies and village panchayats.
The main characteristic of our election policy is that everybody may contest the election without any discrimination of caste, creed, language, gender and area. By winning the election, he can obtain any status as per rule. Due to liberal policy for election, a simple citizen may get a most important post by his efforts. Today, a ruler is under the people and he always remains into the contact of the people, because he knows that it is the public which can make or topple the rulers.
