A simple cold from infection can turn in to Sinusitis. Sinusitis is common diseases that occur in nose due to blockage in sinuses. Sinus is the area filled with air called as nasal cavities near nose, eyes and cheeks. Nasal cavity helps in smooth functioning of the respiratory system in human body as:
- First it helps in smooth performance of respiratory system by regulating the temperature and flow of air which is passing through nose in the body.
- Second by filtering the air.
- Third it helps in receiving the smelling sensations.
Thus nasal cavity is an important part of nose. Every human body is having four pair of Nasal cavities in the nose with different set of functions. When due to some allergy, viral infection, bacteria or fungal infection causing inflammation in nasal cavity and that inflammation is called as sinusitis. Types of Sinusitis
Generally sinusitis can be categories in three levels depending upon the condition of the patient. However there is not as such medical term defined for types of Sinusitis but we can divide them generally according to the duration of disease.
- First level is when sinusitis last for three to four weeks that is called as Acute Sinusitis.
- Second level is when the sinusitis last for four to twelve weeks that is called as Subacute Sinusitis.
- Third level is when sinusitis last for more than twelve weeks that is called as Chronic Sinusitis.
- Fourth level is when Acute Sinusitis happens again and again many times.
Effects
Sinusitis can affect our health and body badly. Due to the congestion in nasal area some major problems that are faced during the sinusitis are:
- Severe headache can be felt specially in morning time that can be last till afternoon which is felt due to the vacuum created in nasal cavity.
- Swelling on face, pain in ear.
- Sore throat due to infection.
- Respiratory problem can be felt due to flow of unclean air.
- Excessive running nose.
However these are general effects which any patient can feel during this disease but effects can differ from person to person depending upon the immunity, proper care and medication.
Causes of Sinusitis
Sinusitis is common disease that is spreading all over the world. Causes can differ from place to place and person to person depending upon different living conditions and different living environment. Some common causes are:
- Some people are extra sensitivity and allergic to changing environment like, specific food, changing weather conditions, smoke , dust and strong chemicals as these things can act as a stimulants and can cause sinus.
- Common Viral, fungus or bacterial infection is one of the main cause of sinus.
- Unevenness cause in nasal passage due to some injury or genes can cause sinus.
- Weak immune system and asthmatic people are more prone to sinusitis
- Hormonal imbalance due to pregnancy or excessive intake of drugs can cause sinusitis.
- According to research infection from mould can trigger the sinus.
- Severe tooth infection can cause sinusitis.
Precautions
Precaution can be taken at initial stages to in order to avoid the sabacute and chronic sinusitis. Some of them are listed below:
- If common cold continues after week then those who are asthmatics and allergic should consult a doctor start taking medicines under medical supervision.
- One should keep house environment neat and clean in order to get rid of bacterial infection.
- Those who are allergic should avoid smoke, dust, strong chemicals and strong perfumes.
- Sinusitis patient should not blow their nose for atleast 2 weeks.
- Injury near nasal cavity area should be taken seriously and treated under expert medical supervision.
Treatment
Sinusitis need proper and medical treatment as in initial stages it’s not easy to detect this disease. After detected it should be properly treated with proper medical treatment under expert guidance.
- A patient should take healthy and balanced diet rich in calcium vitamin C and Vitamin A. Chicken soup is also considered very well for Sinusitis patients.
- Regular steaming of nose should be done to open blockages in nasal cavity area.
- Intake of sufficient liquid can also help in opening the blockages.
- Nasal sprays can be used as an oral medicines in case of acute sinusitis.
- Antibiotics can be taken if symptoms of sinusitis continue after a week.
- In cases of reoccurrence of acute sinusitis which means acute sinusitis is happening again and again to the patient then in that case patient have to undergo a surgery.
Sinusitis is not a very serious and complicated disease. It is just an advance form of common cold. If detected then it should be properly medicated with proper treatment and precautions or else it can have deadly effects in its advance stages.
