News Report: In Brazil two children died because of drinking cola after eating mentos. Be careful while drinking coke. Mentos is a candy consisting of mint which has a soft and slightly harder encasement with chewy interior. On eating that candy we get a cooling effect. It’s commonly used as mouth fresheners and some candies for cough and cold also contain mint.

Any carbohydrate drink can be called as cola. The major ingredient of cola is carbon-di-oxide gas. Also it contains agents like high fructose corn syrup carmell color phosphoric acid and natural flavors for odor and coloring agents. What happens when mentos and cola is mixed together?

This combination will lead to the production of mass amount of foam. This takes place because candy helps to disrupt the surface tension of cola and all the dissolved gas (carbon-di-oxide) escapes which resemble a gas cylinder explosion or expansion of compressed gas. Now it will be clear that how eating mentos and cola will lead to death. When the diffused carbon-di-oxide escapes it leads to increase in volume of the gas. This cause increase in pressure and can damage or break the stomach and can lead to death.
