There was a time when print media played a important role. Now the role has been taken over by television. Television has changed the way we live. Television Channels cater to the requirements of almost every individual. Irrespective of a person's age or gender, educational qualifications or economic status, Television Channels have programmes to meet the requirement of almost each and every individual in our country.
However still one feels Television channels can utilize their time and our time more efficiently. More often than not television channels are focussing on 3 aspects highlighted below which by no means can be considered constructive.
1) Cricket:- The channels are devoted on focussing our cricketers in general. Not even a single second or opportunity is wasted by these channels in giving wide coverage to these cricketers, either in exaggerated praise or extreme condemnation. To add to this some more time is wasted on focussing on their personal lives and other needless controversies.
2) Filmstars & Gossip:- Again too much time is wasted on either building a star or disucssing about their personal lives and other controversies. More time is wasted on the previews or reviews of their movies. The basic intention of these channels is to give the stars the required publicity.
3) Businessmen:- If a not so famous businessman wants publicity, then their medium of introduction to us would be through channels. Also channels waste no time to be in good books of these people by giving wide coverage of their business and their personal lives.
SUGGESTIONS WHERE TELEVISION CAN ACTUALLY HELP US & IMPROVE OUR LIVES.
What our television channels should realize is that they are such a powerful media, that if they utilize their presence, power and time in a more positive manner they can change the lives of many of our countrymen. Let us take a classic case. Few years back when a kid fell into a deep pit, it was these channels which gave live coverage which ultimately helped in rescuing the kid. There are lot of things which media can do. For example, they can raise charity for individuals who need medical help for which they cannot afford to pay money. Television channels can beam the Bank account numbers of the concerned individuals, so that people can put money in his or her account so that he or she can foot bills for the hospitals. Similarly channels can bring to the notice of all of us, the problems faced by people living below poverty line, so that Government or interested individuals can reach out to them and help them.
In India we have lot people who need help and there are lot of people who are more than willing to help. Here television can play a big role in making both the needy & volunteer meet.
