Hi friends in this article let us see about oe of the best film, which I have ever seen and I am sure it makes us feel and more importantly, this will make us realize the sufferings of the Polish Jews in the hands of the German Soldiers. Really the World has lost many innocents life mainly due to the World War and we can also understand that war is never a solution for any problem and most importantly, there are lot of innocent people in the war zone, just hoping for only one moment on their life, i.e. they just want to see a world, without any gun sound and bombings. {TO WATCH THE TRAILER OF THE MOVIE PLEASE, CLICK HERE}
It has been a long time that I have watched a movie, before seeing the film called “The Pianist” yesterday (30th November, 2009). I was having this film for more than one month, without seeing it, but now I realize that I should watched this movie a little bit earlier. Still there is no wrong, because at least I managed to watch this film.
At first instant one thing Cleary struck my mind, and i.e. I have seen the hero of this film, in a famous English film called King Kong, and after seeing this movie I was really impressed by his acting and so I just browsed in internet and gathered some information about the hero of this film, Adrien Brody. The juries of Academy Award have done a great job in awarding The Best Actor Award for Adrien and I believe that, those who would seen this film, will accept my point.
You can also feel the Tom Hank’s character in the film Cast Away, because here in this film, Adrien becomes ill and sick and he was the only Jew managed to escape from the allotted area for Jews and in the later part of the film we can see that he just hunts for food, and these scenes are really touching and makes us feel for him.
This film is directed by the controversial director Roman Polanski, who also won an Oscar for this film. The film also won an Oscar for adapted Screenplay by Ronald Harwood Actually this film is based on a true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman (from his book), who was a famous Pianist of Poland at that time and some even considered as one of the best Pianist of the world. The entire film takes place during the Second World War, where the Germans capture Poland and also tortures the Jews, as Hitler doesn’t like any Jews .The film starts with the old videos (Black and White) of Warsaw, Poland of 1939.The real image of Wladyslaw Szpilman is shown below.
Adrien Brody played the character of Szpilman and the film starts at the Warsaw Radio station, where the program of Szpilman is being aired. All of a sudden the radio station was bombed and so Szpilman cannot continue further and has to return home, in order to save his life. He returns home in panic but he was happy to hear the news in BBC radio, which says that Britain will fight against Germany, to free Poland. But their hope crashes and their dream of getting freed very soon dashes as the German had a huge settlement in Poland.
As days passed, the condition of the Jews in Poland became worse and moreover the Germans started to treat them as a slave and they were not any given right. They also asked to wear bands on the right hand of every Jew, with a star symbol, so that it will be easy for the German soldiers to identify the Jews and can punish whenever they want. They were also very precise about the size and measurement of the star and anyone who disobeys the rule will be killed mercilessly. The image below are real one, which shows how Jewish people suffered, and it is taken form the internet.
Soon the Germans allotted a separate place called as Warsaw Ghetto and also ordered all the Jews to shift to this place within a deadline (31st October 1940). So more than 4 lakhs Jews are ordered to occupy this small place and that too in a confined place, which many felt, it would be difficult. The situation becomes still worse, when a wall was built which separated the city fr0m this Jewish settlement.
The Germans were very cruel and in one scene they come to an apartment, which is just opposite to Szpilman’s apartment and the Germans cruelly kill an old man, who was in his wheel chair, and they simply threw him away to the ground floor and also killed other members of the family, by shooting them, after making them to run in the road.
The Jewish people in the settlement hardly had any good food and there is also a scene in the film where, a man just eats his food even though it was slipped and fell in the ground. It was really sad to see these kinds of scenes and really makes us to feel bad, when we come to know that these are true incidents and it was experience by our fellow humans. Szpilman also gets an opportunity to become a Jewish police at the Ghetto, by one of his friends, but he rejected this offer.
Suddenly, one day all the Jews were forced to wait in a ground as they were to be deported to another place. Szpilman and his family also came there and all the Jews were waiting for a long time in the hot sun, yet there was no sign of the train. At one instant Szpilman’s father shares a small piece of food that he has brought with his family members.
Finally when the train arrives all the Jews were pushed into the train and it was congested. Luckily Szpilman was saved by his family friend, who was a Jewish Ghetto Police officer, who earlier gave him an opportunity to become police, and this made Szpilman to get separated from his family.
Then he was put along with other Jewish Co workers to do very difficult construction works. There, one of the co worker motivated him and said that at present there were around 30,000 Jews and most of them are young people and also aid that they should fight against the German soldiers. So Szpilman also decided to help his friends and he started to smuggle weapons for them, which was very risky.
He also managed to help from that place, before the riots started. Outside the Ghetto he was helped by some of his friends from the Radio Station, (who were Non Jews) and they also gave him a flat outside the Ghetto. Outside the Ghetto all were non Jews and Szpilman must take care that he stays very calm and silent, without giving any chance for the outsiders to reveal his presence.
One day he was notice by the non Jews there and this made him to meet one of his friend, who gave him new accommodation near the Warsaw Hospital, and later he becomes very ill. At the same the uprisings started again and the German bombed his flat and also killed all the Jews who were responsible for the uprising.
Then the rest of the film shows how Szpilman fights for his life, by staying in the damaged building and eating any piece of food available to him, before being caught by one of the German officer Hosenfeld. But Hosenfeld likes him and the music, and also helped him, without revealing his place to other Germans. He was very good. The image below is the real photo of Hosenfeld and the statement shows that he was kind by nature.
He also gave him food, which made Szpilman to stay alive. Hosenfeld also gave his coat to Szpilman. But the new good news is the Russians and the allies reached Poland and defeated the Germans. Along with other German soldiers Hosenfeld was also kept in the war prisoner camp and there Hosenfeld met another Jew musician( who was working the Warsaw Radio Station) and said that he knew Szpilman and also asked Szpilman to help him.
But when Szpilman came to that place every German prisoners were evacuated. The film ends, where, Szpilman is shown working at the Warsaw Radio Station and it is also mentioned that Szpilman continued to live in Warsaw and died in 2000, but that Hosenfeld died in 1952 in a Soviet prisoner-of-war camp.
In short "The Pianist" is a masterpiece and don't miss it.
The IMDB rating of the movie is 8.5 out of 10.
