The changing face of the global economic environment, technological upgradation and interpersonal competitivenes necessitates a whole new look at education at all levels to redefine education and literacy.
The entire focus of education must shift to learning rather than teaching children. Creativity and ability to learn needs to be given highest priority. Students should be acquainted with problem solving and critical thinking approach that bridge the gap between theory and practices. It is done through reflection, reflective inquiry and self awareness of the learners which create learning opportunity and facilitates deep, meaningful and lifelong and foster critical thinking and reflective enquiry.
Besides reading and writing of language the oral communication in learning of a language through video visual should be encouraged.
The school curriculum should contain components that communicate essential values in their totality. For that in morning assembly school should practice silence and meditation, stories about the lives and teachings of prophets, saints and sacred text of different religions reading from books of wisdom or great literature or an appropriate address by a teacher or a guest teacher.
School may organize field activities like social work leading to the attitude of service to humanity and other creatures or even sensitize the students to preserve the nature and environment.
School may organize essential teaching of the major world religions, comparative study of the philosophy of religion, social service during holidays and outside school hours, community singing programme, national integration camps, social service programme, cultural activities, plays, debates etc. This would generate understanding and respect for one another and create a tolerant and cohesive society, which is need of today school environment.
In order to develop a responsible next generation that will contribute effectively to society the spirit of entrepreneurship has to be promoted in school. For that greater industry-academia collaboration for curriculum design, finding and conduction of coursers must be encouraged.
