Before taking my post graduation itself I had a chance to write a written test to the post of Scientific Assistant in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre ( BARK) , Trombay near Mumbai. It was just after my graduation. I don’t know how I did it , but by God’s sake I got through the selection test. The interview was scheduled to the very next day itself.
On next day I took all my certificates which were already taken by me since it was informed that interview will be conducted for successful candidates on very next day itself. I dressed well and with good confidence obtained from winning the selection test attended the interview. It was the first interview that I faced in my life. I couldn’t get through the interview and that is why I am now here with you to share this experiences!!!
After that I had faced many many interviews and had successfully passed through many of them. I had got many job posting also. So I wish to share some thing with you all about facing an interview.
How to face an interview? Remember many types of interviews are going on to different types of posts at different parts of our country. They may be online interviews and personal interviews. Here I discuss about personal interviews.
I have seven orders to those who attend a personal interview. They are seven orders , not requests. So be polite to observe them while going to an interview to be successful in an interview. Read those orders below.
1) Beware of your own strength and weakness ( Never prepare a resume that looks like an exaggerated story. It itself may invite more unnecessary questions from interview board. )
2) You must be prepared enough to tell about a subject or topic if you are asked to do so. So before going to an interview choose a topic that can be presented well and prepare it very well. Also practice the class in front of your brothers or sisters or lonely before a mirror. ( If you laughs now you will have to cry after interview )
3) Always try to apply intelligence before the interview board. In most interviews your way of approaching a problem is tested other than your subject knowledge.
4) Don't give an incorrect answer to a question. If you don't know say boldly " Sorry, I don't remember ".You may ask clue leading to the answer, but don't ask too many clues.
5) Present your career achievements as well as extra curricular achievements proudly but politely
6) Speak clearly in a smooth manner. Your body language, gestures and facial expressions will be evaluated by the interview board.
7) Two way communication between you and the interview board is essential to be successful in an interview. So never hesitate to answer a question from the board even if it is silly or funny.
As a preparation to interview you should have a script or story board of the interview in your mind. Segmentize your study period as school days and college days and expect questions like why you chose this course ? Why not that course? How may this job change your future ? What is your ambition ? say about yourself etc. You should have ready and true answers for all these questions. You should be present at the interview place at least ten minutes before the proposed time to get a relaxation.
When you describe your weakness make it sure that the interview board takes it positively. It means your explanation should be in that way only. In any interview never ask about the salary offered , bonus paid , other benefits etc to the interview board and also don't question the arguments of any member of the board if you really need that job.
You should keep some manners when you appear before an interview board. The manners of interview that should be kept are listed below.
1) Ask permission to enter the room and wish all of the members on entering the room.
2) Unless told ,don't sit even though chair is ready there for you. When told to sit say "thanks" and then sit.
3) When you sit don't drag the chair to make unwanted sound in the room.
4) Keep always a smile on lips .
5) Be confident and don't get tensed.
6) Keep a sharp eye and a keen ear to the interviewers. When one asks a question listen to him only and while answering look evenly to all faces.
6) Your dress code should also be very attractive.
A common acceptable dress code for interview is given below.
