A HOUSE ON FIRE

                               It was all well when I returned home after the night-show. The wind was a bit stronger. The city was slumbering under the blue starry sky. I lay down on my bed with peasant thoughts about the film which I had seen and soon felt a sleep. Suddenly I was awakened by the loud cries of “Fire! Fire! “I jumped out of my bed and hurried out to the actual spot.

Luxmi Building-

The street was a sense of great confusion. Many people were seen running in the same direction. I also joined them. At about 200 yards. I saw tremendous red flames rising above the house near “Jai Hind” talkies. The blaze was horrible. As we went near we found that the luxmi Building was on fire.

The fire Fighting-

A large crowd had already gathered there. Some people had formed a long line whch ran from the burning house o the nearest well. They passed heir buckets down the line full of water from the well to the fire and then empty buckets from the fire to the well. Some of them flung water on the flames. Others threw sand from their buckets to put out the ire. Their faces looked ghastly and weired in the red light of the flames. Dark and dense clouds of smoke also arose and filed the sky. Our eyes smarted and our skin seemed to burn.

The Fire Brigade-

Just then ‘ding’ dong’ of the ire engines was heard. Buses and cars were seen pulling into the road side to give way to the fire engines. Soon one after another they dashed in. they turned their great ladders toward the burning house and from then began to lay water on the shooting flames from their hose pipes.

The firemen save life and properly-

The firemen were indeed splendid magicians. They walked through the fire as it were. They dived there, they dived everywhere yet the burning flames hardly seemed to touch them. On the second floor stood frightened man shouting wildly for help. The five firemen ran beneath the window and stretched a blanket for the man to jump in. he fell exactly in the middle and was saved. Some firemen made their way into the house in their fire proof suit and saved a food deal of house owner’s property.

                               The brave firemen went on battling with the flames. After a terrific fight of two hours, they succeeded in bringing the fire into control. All other houses were prevented from catching loss of properly but happily there was no loss of life.
