All of us conform to the circadian rhythm, which makes us to carry out our activities somehow with a certain amount of regularity. Our body sends signals if this routine is violated. A working person is like a machine. He needs food to fuel his activities every day. The first food he takes immediately after rising from the bed in the morning is to break his overnight fast. The food is referred to as BREAKFAST which is considered as the most important food of the day. It is supposed to replenish the stock of all vital nutrients after a long gap of rest. Sadly, most of us do not realize the importance of breakfast and habitually skip it. Children, in particular, need to take a nutritious breakfast regularly as they have to support the growing phase of their lives.
Childhood is that wonderful period of life when firm foundations are laid doe proper physical, mental, social and emotional growth. It is also the period when young children find themselves very vulnerable to infection and diseases, especially related to nutritional deficiency disorders. Breakfast foods play an important role in giving a sound start to a child in the morning and provide a good base for our physical as well as mental health. For proper growth, development and various metabolic activities macronutrients as well as micronutrients are required in a balanced quantity.
Several studies documented that breakfast is indeed the food for the brain. A child who goes to school hungry cannot concentrate enough on certain learning tasks. Research studies have also revealed that food intake often affects cognitive behavior. Children having poor dietary habits have been shown to perform poorly on the tests measuring scholastic aptitude and academic excellence, whereas those taking habitual breakfast scored better. Thus a proper diet indeed plays a vital role in a child’s day to day performance and most importantly breakfast assists in giving a sound start to a day. So let us NOT MISS OUT morning BREAKFAST at any cost.
