This article will describe how limestone is processed and used to build rock solid building structures.
First let us study about limestone.
What is limestone and what are its uses?
Limestone is a kind of sedimentary rocks. It consists of Calcium carbonate in crystal form. It also contains silica.
Sedimentary rocks contains limestone around 8 to 10% (approx) of their total volume.
Limestone is partially soluble in acid. Limestone is used in the manufacturing of toothpaste, paper and many more.
Study of sedimentary rocks comes under Sedimentology ( a type of Geology).
Why limestone?
This stone is called as limestone simply because it smells like lime.
From where limestone can be found?
Limestone can be found in its mining areas, technically called as surface quarries.
Surface quarries are nothing but the type of mining in which such stones are found beneath the surface.
How is Limestone processed?
Manufacturers of limestone go for limestone mining at mining areas from where limestone can be easily found along with appropriate machinery because these are huge structures naturally and to cut them into pieces of appropriate size which their vehicle can carry. limestones are found in many parts of the world like in Virginia USA where there are huge reserves of limestone.
Once limestone is crushed into pieces at its source, it is carried to the crushing industry where actually processing or cutting of limestone happens. Once limestone reaches in limestone crushin industry, limestones are cut into slabs. The size of slab will vary according to its use later.
For example, if it is to be used as a building material then they are sliced and cut in the form of tiles of different dimensions.
At the time of cutting limestone, correct placement of limestone into the crusher is very necessary, otherwise, it could result into wastage of a limestone.
Various crushing instruments or equipments like limestone crusher or limestone mills are used in which slabs brought from the mining areas, are placed under these equipments. In the software, appropriate dimensions are fed and once all required details are fed into the system, the crusher is started and limestone crusher starts crushing the limestone slabs according to the data fed in the system.
Limestone is put on the conveyor and then passed on to crusher. Crusher has the ability to reduce the size of limestone from 1 metre to 25mm size. Once the limestone is crushed, it is then passed to a vibrating screen over the conveyor belt to make it a final product and make ready for use. At the time of crushing there are emissions from the crusher as it is a very heavy duty machine. So to prevent from these emissions, filter system comes along with the machinery which takes control of emissions emitted by the crusher.
On the other hand, if it is required to be grinded then it is sent into grinder where fine grinding of limestone happens.
At the time of cutting, there is continuous spray of water which is very essential at the time of cutting limestone to ensure the smooth and accurate cutting of limestone.
Once the crushed and processed (after preheating and cooling processes) limestone is released from the vibrating screen, it is final product and is ready for its use.
