Today education is not the same as it was in the olden days. Nowadays students are participating in a rat-race. Their main aim is to score well in their exams. There has been a sea change in the behaviour of students towards education.Learning has taken a backseat. Total concentration is on faring well in the exams to get into prestigious institutions. In this race the only thing left behind is learning. Parents are also in sync with this trend. They want their children to be successful, so they are also focusing on marks.
In the same light, even educational institutions have commercialised everything.
Today everything has become a business. It is indeed heart-breaking to see the enormous mountain of education come stumbling down to the ground. Schools and colleges want winners in order to generate toppers. Chapters are thus stuffed into students’ mind. Little attention is paid to learning. Learning, understanding, interpreting are very valuable things. It takes time for a student to understand and grasp things but it is sad to note that in the name of finishing the syllabus students are being deprived of that valuable time.
By scoring high marks in the final exam doesn’t mean that a person is well educated. Education is a far more complex process than people think. Apart from the academic point of view there is a different aspect to education which is known as character building. It is believed that education moulds an individual but the kind of education being imparted today is by no means moulding individuals. What is the use of education when the person does not have courtesy, gratitude and basic etiquettes? In no way is education building character today. An average Indian student spends 14 years in school and 3-4 years in college but the ultimate result is nil. There are very few who pass out as worthy, truly educated beings.
It is high time people realise the follies in the current education pattern. Amendments have to be made to change the education system for the better.
Students have to be made ready for the battle called life. Intellect, manners, character all together will make him/her ready for the battle.
