Final Image :
A._) Creating the Background :
- Setting shape as Background > Open a new document of width 800px and height 600 px. Create a new layer (if that box is not visible, use Windows menu and select 'Layers' option) and name this layer as > Background.Like in Photoshop we will not be able to simply set the background color. So create a rectangular shape using rectangle shape tool and fit it to the size if the page or the required size to fit in the Text. Set the stroke color for this as Black and stroke size as 1px. Set the fill color of this rectangle shape as Brown.
- Adding style to Background > Select the rectangle shape,Now go to Effect menu > Effect Gallery > Texture > Craquelure. Set the Crack spacing as 40, Crack Depthn as 5, Crack Brightness as 6.
- Applying Border to the Background > We are not going to apply background to the rectangle shape, only to some area as seen in the image. Use the Pen tool and draw around the backround in areas where you want the border, by leaving out the left side and a little portion of the top side. Do not set any fill color for pen drawing. Set the stroke color to black and at size 1px. Along with fill color and stroke color, you will also have an option called > Brush. Right click the Brush option and select Open Brush Library. Under this option, amongst the various brush styles, select > Borders_Novelty, and choose the border called > Flowers. You can then select the path drawn with Pen tool and reduce / increase the border to fit the background accordingly. Note : Cut and paste the border in a new layer.
- Use image as an Highlight > Now instead of having a plain Brown background, open an image file (while opening it is opened as a live paint object). Select the image and drag it inside the document we are working in. Resize the image in such a way that it is perfectly alligned over the background. Note : Drag this image in a new layer. Once the image is placed, select the image and at the top, its options appear. There set the opacity of the image to 50 %. Doing this, you can see the image and also the styled background.
B._) Typing Text in Illustrator :
Use the Type tool and type any text. I used the Text Boddunan.Use the color Green (Dark Green shade) for the Text (Do not mind the color in the image, i changed it later) Create another layer and copy the text and paste it in the new layer. Use one layer for reference so you can hide it. In the other layer, after typing the text - Boddunan, you will be using various tools to add effects first, before converting the text to 3D. Use the DIRECT SELECTION TOOL to select individual alphabets and to apply effects to them. First select letter B using Direct selection tool, and use the ' TWIRL ' tool (which is available under the warp tool in Tools box) and click on the letter B on the to opening and also at the bottom opening. I have included a summary of where exactly to click in the following Image. Please refer that first. To apply the desired effect, click and hold, the more you hold, the more depth the effect appears. Similarly, use ' BLOAT ' tool for the alphabet 'o' by clicking in the middle of the letter 'o', ' PUCKER ' tool for next two letters 'd' and 'd' by simply clicking outside the letters, and use ' PUCKER ' tool again for 'u' by clicking outside on the top side, ' BLOAT ' tool for 'n' by clicking in the middle, ' TWIRL' tool for 'a' by clicking on the outside corner and dragging from left to right, and ' PUCKER ' tool for 'n' by clicking outside at the bottom. For all the alphabets, the same role of the more you hold, the more depth the effect appears apllies, so be very patient while using the tools.
C._) Creating the 3D Text :
Now for Creating the 3D text follow the procedure as mentioned below :
Apply 3D effect > Select the text using selection tool and go to Type menu > Create outlines. this option enables to make changes to individual text using Direct selection tool. Now use Direct selection tool and Select the alphabet B alone and not the whole text. Go to Effect menu > 3D > Extrude and Bevel and adjust the settings as > Rotation for X axis is -(minus)18 degree, Rotation for Y axis is -(minus)26 degree and Rotation for Z axis is 8(positive) degree. The Extrude depth is 30 pt and leave the other adjustments as default. Once the extrude is applied for B, select 'o' alphabet and go to Effect menu > Apply extrude and Bevel to apply the same rotation settings as B for 'o' also but the Extrude Depthe for 'o' is 15 pt. Next, select the next alphabet 'd' and do the same thing. Apply extrude INDIVIDUALLY for all the alphabets. Do not select the whole text at same time because then for individual alphabets you can not apply effects individually if you want to. Therefore, Only the text 'B' will have a thicker Depth of 30 pt and other aphabets have depth of 15 pt.
D._) Adding Ants as an highlight to Text :
Drawing using Pen tool: Use the Pen tool to draw the curves. Create a new layer first and name it as ANTS and then use the pen tool to draw. Click on an area and then click near the point but this time do not remove your finger from the mouse but instead drag towards any direction to form a curve. Repeat the process for few times till you get a desired shaped curve. Draw this path below the text to highlight the text as if underlining the text. Once the path is formed, Go to the option called > Brush as used above. Right click the Brush option and select Open Brush Library. Under this option, amongst the various brush styles, select > Borders_Novelty, and choose the border called > Ants. You can adjust the curves of the Pen tool using Direct selection tool even after applying Brush border style.
E._) Adding Stem for Background
Single leaf >
First use the pen tool to draw a straight line and then click on an area and then click near the point but this time do not remove your finger from the mouse but instead drag towards any direction to form a curve. This path is placed on the left side of the Background where we did not apply the Background. You can draw this path with any stroke color as this path can be set to Green color. I also added some custom made pattern to blend with the background but it is not necessary. Once the stem is finished, lets add leaves. Again use the PEN TOOL to draw a single leaf. Draw this in a new layer. Using a pen tool, click on an area and then click near the point but this time do not remove your finger from the mouse but instead drag towards any direction to form a curve. Repeat the process for few times till you get a desired leaf shape. Once one leaf shape is created, make copies using edit menu > copy option and paste them. You can use the Transform option to rotate the leaves to have the flow of the leaves. NOTE : You need not allign each leaf one by one. First create a group of leaves and then make them into a group using, Object menu > Group, then you can simply copy the groups and paste them. The colors of these leaves are > Light Yellow. For the end of the step, add three of the single leaves created above and apply Dark yellow color.
F._) Adding Rose Flower to the logo :
Go to Photoshop and open an image file of a rose flower. Use the Magnetic Lasso tool to select only the rose flower and using the Move tool, select the flower and drag it into the Illustrator software. The rose is placed as a live trace object. select the rose, and go to Object menu > Live Trace > Tracing options and set the mode to > color and set the Maximum colors to 100 so that the color resolution is normal. You can rotate the image as shown in the final image. Now go to Effects menu > Effect Gallery > Artisttic > Cutout and set the Number of levels to 5, Edge simplicity to 4, and Edge Fidelity to 2. Place this above the Text. The leaves for the rose image is taken from the above single leaves drawn. After drawing the leves, rotate / resuze them and under style you can select many styles. I first created a style called > Leaf_Texture by opening a leaf image and selecting a portion and defining it as patter. Once pattern is defined, you can select it from the styles box to apply real life leaf texture to the leaves.
G._) Stem for the Rose image :
Create a new layer first and name it as Rose Stem and then use the pen tool to draw. Click on an area and then click near the point but this time do not remove your finger from the mouse but instead drag towards any direction to form a curve. Repeat the process for few times till you get a desired shaped curve. Use the group of leaves we created above to have many copies and place them by using the stem path dran using Pen tool as allignment reference. Also place the single leaves above at the corner of the path at the bottom. The rose image is placed at the end of the top stem path. Similarly you can add additional items to contribute to the desired theme. Note : Place all parts in individual layers. Only then it would be easy to make changes later.
