Cleanliness is very important for a healthy living.
Personal hygiene means the science of preserving and promoting health through the active efforts of an individual. Personal hygiene is entirely within the scope of an individual. It all depends on how much importance an individual attaches to his health and what is his attitude towards his health.
Personal hygiene is wrongly equated with personal cleanliness. Cleanliness is only a part of personal hygiene. The scope of personal hygiene is much wider than that of personal cleanliness. Personal hygiene consists of clean and healthy habits.
Personal hygiene is practiced at home. It is acquired through sanitary habits and healthy way of life. A person can stay at the best level of his health by observing the principles of personal hygiene. The state of health can be acquired only by the active efforts and habits of an individual.
Such clean habits as taking a bath every morning, wearing neat and clean clothes, brushing teeth in the morning and evening, cutting the nails short, keeping the hair clean, washing hands with soap and water etc. are elements of personal hygiene.
In addition to these clean habits, good eating habits, regular and moderate exercise proper rest and sound sleep, immunization and prevention against diseases, proper ventilation and sufficient lighting, knowledge of heath and disease etc., are also important factors of personal hygiene.
We should also keep our house, classroom and school clean. We should not litter the surroundings with wastepaper. We should put waste things in the dustbin. If cleanliness is observed, there will be no diseases.
Wash your hands before and after meals. Keep your classroom tidy. Use dustbins for waste paper. Keep things in their proper places.
