The Golden temple is initiated by Guru Ramdass ji. The beautiful Hari Mandir is situated in the middle of the sacred pool known as "Amrit Sarovar". When the sun rays directly falls on the the temple the reflection of the temple which falls on the sarovar looks beautiful. It is the holiest site in Sikhism. It is open to all. One is not allowed to carry or eat any inflammable goods inside and outside the temple premises. The temple is reached by following a parikrama. To enter in to the main temple one has to pass through a gate made of silver known as Darshani Deorhi and then through a bridge called Guru Bridge. Inside the temple the Sikh Granth are read out everyday which is telecast on the television. Everynight the Granth Sahib is carried in "Palki" in grand procession and put it in its bed in the "Akal Takht". This ceremony usually takes place at 11pm in summer and 9.30pm in winter. One has to cover their head as soon a they enter in the temple premises. Then there is a big "Langar" hall inside the Golden Temple Complex where everyday thousands of people are fed for free by the temple volunteers. Inside the Hari Mandir there is lotus shaped dome which was constructed with gold and decorative marbles. It looks beautiful in the evening when the temple and its premises are lit up.
