It is amazing that a woman supreme court judge includes her daughters' marriages as a liability in her financial balance sheet.
Probably, she is right in view of the social traditions in India. Expenditure on daughters' marriage is a major item. She has to provide for the expense on daughters' marriage.

The Govt. officers and judges etc. have to submit every year their financial position and property statement. Daughter's marriage requires expenditure. The woman judge just indicated the amount that she will spend on daughters' marriage. This is not wrong. She is not to blame. The social system is to blame.

The gender specific social norms lead to discriminatory treatment. Parents need not bother about boys. The girls are considered 'honor' and anything going wrong to them will spoil the 'honor' of family and the girl. The boys have no 'honor'. Hence, girls should not be permitted to move about alone or play games suiting boys only etc.
