This is not so weird. In our country, women are married first to a tree to follow a ritual. Aishwarya Rai is believed to have married a tree before Abhishek Bachhan just to avoid 'mangal dosh' which is a sort of astrological or religious concept. In some places, girls are married to frogs before marrying a boy. There is Devdasi system that consists of ritual of marrying girls to deity or god.

So, what if the Australian married a dog. Here is another aspect. If he married a bitch, this would be straight. As he married dog, he is gay.
