IPS officers

Three people have seen this query but none has answered. Koi to reply karke meri samasya ka samadhan kao. :(

The qualification for civil service exams conducted by U.P.S.C. is graduation in any discipline. If you have a degree in marine engineering, you can appear in the examination.

The status depends on number of days spent in India. If some one resides more than 182 days out of India, he is non resident.

So, can an NRI become an IPS officer?

Being n.R.I. is not a disqualification for appointment as an IPS officer. All that is required is that the candidate should be a citizen of India, a graduate in any discipline and be not be under or over aged.

I am hearing this limitation for first time.Why they are counted as NRIs?

NRI status is provided in Income tax law as well as in RBI rules. These are for income tax and foreign exchange regulation respectively. An Indian citizen residing in another country is recognized as NRI (Non resident Indian)
