I tried.But saw that the second number has more digits than the first one.So it became difficult to solve.

So I am very near to the answer.It is taken from left to right alternatively and added one to last digit.

Your explanation is incorrect.

7 7 8 6 5 2 9 - 268 (last digit is leftmost+1)

Hence for 7 4 9 8 5 2 3 7 6 4 9 it should be - 47285 which is the answer I given.

Even nos means the actual numbers -- 2,4,6,8 (and not the position)
The no. on right side contains only even nos(2,4,6,8) in reverse order..
therefore
7 7 8 6 5 2 9 - 268
7 4 9 8 5 2 3 7 6 4 9 - 46284

I think now its clear... :)
