The union cabinet Monday deferred a bill to substantially hike the salary and perks of members of parliament.

The bill had proposed hiking the basic monthly salary of a MP from Rs.16,000 to Rs.50,000. It also provided for higher perks, including Rs.20,000 as constituency allowance and more air tickets.

The bill was scheduled to be tabled in the parliament this week.

Do you really think it will really effect their earnings... May be they are just fighting for their pension or their grand children's pocket money :P :P :P

But we should welcome that as now a days even a software engineer is getting more than that... :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Actually most of them don't need any salary!!

They are getting so much by their extra-curricular activities(?).

Absolutely
They do not need any kind of salary rise. In fact they do not need to have any salary at all, they are already earning much more than that!
Yes the hike is not necessary as they are first off all not doing their duty properly ...I think salarly is not a big factor for them as they have other ways to earn.. ;) :)
The other question is, what if they are found to have more income than they should have and what if some one finds out some mistake. As long as this does not become a tool in the hands of politicians to blackmail judges, this should be a good move.
In fact their salaries should be directly proportionate to their performance in their constituency which should be audited by comptroller and auditor general every month.

The delay in bill to hike salaries of M.P.s is not justified. If the hike is justified, it must be made promptly. Otherwise the bill must be withdrawn. Timid action like deferring bill indicates government's i9naction and hesitancy to take decisions.
The fact that it has been shelved for the moment just betrays their own guilty conscience!
Unfortunately we people had no voice on this. They decide and pass the bill.We shout only and keep silence after. What a fate!
Our worthy MPs know how to feather their nests at the cost of the exchequer and common people. They have infinite capacity to deceive themselves and the people.Only you have to go through what Lalu Prasad had uttered on the floor of Parliament the other day in support of this bill. The most amazing part of it is all the members speak in one voice in support of it!!
