New Delhi: The Government is actively considering reservation for Muslims through the Other Backward Castes (OBC) route, Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has said.
"We are actively looking at the reservation issue. We have a commitment in our (Congress) manifesto. I am pushing for it all the time ....Congress leadership is committed to the issue and there is no shred of doubt about it," he said in an interview.
Khurshid was replying to questions on whether the government is ready to implement the recommendations of the Ranganath Mishra Commission for reservation to Minorities.
The Commission, whose report was tabled in Parliament in December last year, had recommended 10 per cent reservation for Muslims and five per cent for other minorities in government jobs.
The Commission had also suggested an alternative route for reservation to minorities if there is "insurmountable difficulty" in implementing the recommendation for 15 per cent reservation.

Khurshid said- we have commitment to manifesto of congress. Let them have any commitment. Unless we make optimum use of our natural resources particularly land and man power by developing and using people's talent to the best, there is no hope. The reservations based on caste, community and religion are hindrance to nation's onward march and national self respect.
It is quite ridiculous that they have commitment to manifesto of congress, but not for the welfare of common man. Does reservation solve any problem?
There should not be any reservation on the basis of cast, creed , culture and color.
They want to raise some issues to divert the people from actual problems.
It is very unfortunate for the nation that we don't have strong leadership at center who can take some bold steps for the public.

I am against all of your views.Once there was a system where education was denied to many people. Those who enjoyed the elite class on that days had all opportunity and their children and grand children enjoyed and are enjoying the fruits of that education. When a democratic government comes it have its way to balance the present situation.Hence they provide reservation. It is their right.
Abid- Nobody is against uplifting the downtrodden. This can be done by providing adequate training and finance to them. Efforts should be to help the downtrodden to acquire skill. But nobody should be given reservation in services and legislatures just on basis of caste, creed and religion at coast of efficiency. Unless we utilize talent of our youth properly, we cannot march ahead.

How can the downtrodden compete with these guys who are enjoying all these for generations?

In a nation where people are ready to change religions to get some quick bucks (christian missionary acts), what can you say about getting an offer to get a job on the basis of religion? I think most of the guys would be game for it...
Shameful is the Congress party which learnt nothing from the partition of India, nor from murder of Gandhiji. Congressi vote game may be costly for our nation in the long term.

The downtrodden are to be given special training and education. without proper education they cannot be at par with others. Without preparing them to compete with others, just giving them reservations will do no good to any one including nation. If some one cannot drive a train properly, and you want that he should compete with other drivers, you cannot make him driver as long as he is untrained. First train him by special education and make him fit and only thereafter make him driver.
