Pune-based Bajaj Auto has launched an updated version of the stylish Avenger DTS-i cruiser. On the looks front, the new Avenger is identical to the outgoing model. Additions to the bike include a battery charge level indicator on the fuel tank as well as a maintenance-free battery. The headlight is now battery-powered and should ensure a constant beam at all running speeds.
The big change on the bike is in the engine department. The earlier bike's four-stroke, air and oil-cooled, single-cylinder 198.1cc motor has been replaced with the 219.8cc powerplant that is currently doing duty on the Pulsar 220 DTS-i. This carburetor-fed, four-stroke, air and oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine boasts a healthy peak power of 19bhp at 8400rpm. Max torque is 1.78kgm at 7000rpm.
As before, the bike uses telescopic forks up front and hydraulic shocks at the rear. Braking remains a 260mm front disc and 130mm rear drum setup. Bajaj has priced the new Avenger DTS-i at Rs 69,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is also offering an 18 month warranty on the bike.
