I think it is better to keep it horizontal than vertical. As we don't read vertical (16 can easily be mistaken as 91!) :)

Yes, it was here from yesterday's night..
Its not a new feature, as it was previously there at the left bottom of the screen.
Only its position and style of presenting changed.
Anyways, a very good modification.

I was curious to see it first time last night.A good feature added!

Yeah! I was also aware of the previous feature. This new look looks good..
And as Sridevi said, the number can be kept horizontal, than vertical. This looks more attractive.
