Cell Phone: Luxury or Necessity?

A low priced cell phone primarily for verbal conversation and sending text messages through SMS is a necessity.

The high priced smart phones with blue tooth, camera and other advance features are luxury.

I think it is a luxury which is unavoidable Necessity... :cheer:

Yes, with the people being so busy these days I think cell phone is a necessity rather than a luxury.

Mobile phone is definitely a necessity. High end mobile phones may be luxury for common person but it is necessity for business people.

It has turned out to a tool of empowerment.I never think it to be an item of luxury.

Chinmoy- Cell phone is a tool of empowerment for those who use it properly. What will be use of multi functional costly cell phone for a school going boy or even a businessman who only talks and does not even send SMS.

My views are based on the functional objective of a cell phone,if someone turns it into an item of luxury,that's a different thing!

I do prefer having a cellphone as a necessity... It may be a status symbol or something else, but in my view, Cellphone is there to communicate.

Deepti- You have rightly commented that cell phone is to communicate. So using a cell phone that meets your purpose is necessity and otherwise luxury. So, if you have additional features in your smart phone that you cannot or do not use, this is luxury.

Now it had become a luxury when all in one and multipurpose phones are came.
