When we talk of gender discrimination, we have only male and female in mind. But we ignore the status of eunuchs, neither male nor female- and l;eave them in destitute and unhonourable condition.
Arunacahal Pradesh Government has suggested that the eunuchs be engaged to defend the borders. The Union Government may form a seperate force consisting of eunuchs.
The Mighuls engaged the eunuchs for security of harems. But we need advance further in gender justice. The eunuchs are same as others except gender. There is no reason why they should be confined to tradition of dancing and singing only for reward on auspicious occasions like birth of a child, marriage or opening of shops.
The eunuchs (also called manglamukhi and kinnar) should be brought to main stream and educated/ groomed like others to enable them to get their rightful place in society at par with others.

@Gulshan, I applaud you heartily for bringing such a sensitive but yet neglected issue on the forum. Yes you are right, there should be constructive and well-structured efforts to bring the eunuchs into the mainstream.
But, before any plans for the can be implemented, we should change our outlook towards them. Eg. my personal observation is that men and women alike, shy away from them as if they are something to be feared of. One instance I would like to illustrate, once I was in an SBI branch with mum to withdraw her pension and there was a huge line at the counter. A couple of eunuchs who were illiterate were asking people to help them fill up a form. whenever these guys approached someone, they shooed them away as if they were dogs. I was shocked to see and I went up to them and filled up their form.

Kalyani- i appreciate your gesture towards the eunuchs at the time of need. The government need to introduce constitutional measure to bring them to the main stream be giving them reservation in services and in parliament. I also think that the column for gender should be abolished in all forms. Gender is not relevant for any purpose other than marriage. The eunuchs are okay for everything except marriage.
Kalyani- I agree mere reservation does not help. We have to train the eunuchs at par with others and also attempt to bring about a change in social outlook. Simultaneously, some reservation is necessary for a few years.
I have another suggestion. The eunucks are also born in normal families but the community of eunuchs take away such children and groom them in their own environment. The practice of taking away eunuch child from normal family should be made a criminal offence. The parents must not discriminate on basis of gender- male, female or neutral.
