There is news that Manmohan singh and sonia gandhi differ on modifying the Rights to Information Act. while sonia gandhi desires that this be not changed, man Mohan singh thinks that in interest of public administration the rights in the act need some restrictions.
Let us discuss whether the right to information should be absolute or there should be some restrictions. If so, to what extent?

The purpose of any law is to increase efficiency and help people. The people must get information for the sake of transparency and efficiency of public system. RTI is handy to people in redress of their grievances.
However, there are some secret matters that need not be not divulged in interest of public. Also petty details not relevant to individuals need not be disclosed. There can be modifications after looking into all aspects.

Govt:India has taken a dare step for seeking information from various departments/units. RTI Act is the most powerful weapon for the common people. If i is any modifications necessary, here must not any damage or trouble to acquire the information, the Act has to strengthen . Now the PIOs/FAAs are returning the applications by showing a petty reasons must be controlled.
Healthiest modifications always accepts he people and this mus be more benefited than present.

You have rightly put the entire thing in its true perspective. This right which is ,indeed, a great one has come to the people after a long struggle and great efforts made by man like late H.D.Shourie,the father of Mr. Arun Shourie is not an absolute one and should be used with great judisciousness and cicumspection given to the sensitiveness of the information which is to be sought by the people.

The Govt. classify documents as Secret, Confidential, restricted. While secret documents cannot be disclosed to any one for reason of security, confidential can be disclosed only to concerned person. My suggestion is that the officer appointed under the RTI Act for receiving and disposing applications under the act should act as coordinator between concerned department and people desiring information. Information should never be denied except when it is not relevant to person asking or it is a matter of state secret that affects security of nation.
