We know, If children below Three years are given nutritious food, They will be healthy. But, experts from Pennsylvania University found that, nutritious food besides  keeping the child in good health, can bring a sea change in a Child's behaviour in future.

The study was conducted in Mauritius on a group of Children below Three years.Hemoglobin percentage in Blood, B2 Vitamin and Proteins  are taken in to consideration by the Study Group.

Children who had all the ingredients said above are friendly, active and mixing easily with others.

On the contrary, Children without nutritious ingredients were found to be inactive and unfriendly.

After a period, when these two groups of Children are again tested, the IQ in the first Group  was found to be higher than the second Group.

Here are some tips for a food ideal for children below 3 years.

See getting your kids go Whole grain early. Children need a balance of nutrients, but don't need to get every nutrient at every Meal. Since their small stomachs don't allow them to eat big portions, they need foods  that contain lot of nutrient foods like sweet potatoes, nuts etc.

I agree... Our body and brain requires various nutrients which we can get from the nutritious food only.. If the brain gets all required nutrients it remains active and gas good thinking power..

Traditional food of any family have enough nutritions. Consuming seasonal fruits, vegetables and grains is enough for childers, Parents must be save them from packed and junk food.

Exactly. Health and behaviour in Children below 3 years must be treated with lot of care, so that their Health and behaviour are protected for ever. And for this, as you said , parents must keep their children away from packed and junk food.

Without referring to any studies, it is common sense that good and nutritious food is at the core of our entire personality growth. However, environment and genes cannot be overcome by diet, if at all only to a small extent.

I know a considerable number of parents lack that much needed common sense that food plays a vital role in shaping the personality of the children. If Children below Three years are given a healthy diet, it helps in keeping the children in a healthy condition and there would be a drastic change in the child's behavioural patterns in future.

I couldn't agree more. The role of Nutritious food plays an extremely important role, along with a love-filled atmosphere. Nutritious food acts like fertilizers for the little plants our children are. However, every mom will have some experience or the other to share, which could easily prove that getting your kids to eat nutritious food is not a piece of cake. Kids, with their still developing taste buds, are often cranky, do not want to try new stuff, become very stubborn with their favorites and so on and so forth. So while feeding kids with a lot of care regarding nutrition is a must, it's definitely easier said than done :)

Parenting is not a Cake walk. Its a tight rope walk. Additionally, for a considerable number of parents. especially working parents feeding the Baby is just filling the small stomach of the Baby.. Feeding the baby involves lot of patience. Generally at this stage of a baby's life, a baby likes to play while its being fed.. All these factors are to be taken in to consideration while feeding the Baby with nutritious stuff.

Giving our traditional dishes and proper breakfast to the child each day is actually enough. They must be encouraged to eat seasonal fruits and vegetables according to the season. But nowadays, people are going overboard and stuffing the children with unnecessary calories and nutrition and then forcing the kids to sit in one place and study. As a result, the kids are intelligent and bright but growing up as obese, sickly children. We are seeing a flood of advertisements of various health drinks, nutrition-loaded stuff claiming to make the kids brighter but they are not at all necessary.

Yes nutritious food is very important. And as others already mentioned the traditional foods in india are more than enough to provide the required nutrition to the kids. Its only when start to choose the easier way and move to processed and semi processed foods like biscuits, chips, cheese burgers etc. that we are inculcating the wrong food habbits in our kids and also weaning them of the nutrients.

No doubt Indian food is well balanced if care is taken.I have seen mothers mix lots of rice with a little dhal, lots of ghee and feed to children with no vegetables and even when they do include it , it is always a side dish instead of a part of the meal. A lot of stress is given of carbohydrates, starch, fats and not enough n proteins and vitamins and other nutrients. If the amount of rice is reduced and the amount of dhal and vegetables are increased along with milk ,yogurt and fruits a child will have an all round nourishment.

Yes I agree. Nowadays kids are mostly fond of eating processed foods. Most of the kids eat either buiscuits or bread for breakfast which gives very less amount of nutrients. Although bread has fortified vitamins, its still not natural.

Ideal food for kids that help in keeping the child  both physically and mentally in a healthy condition  are Eggs, Oat meal, Fruits, Nuts, Milk, all pulses, Dahi etc. Care should be taken to avoid Chips and CupCakes.

You have left out the most important food , vegetables which in fact is the most essential and unless children develop a liking for it early in life it is difficult to get used to it later in life. As far as chips , chocolates and cakes go, they all have some nutritive values...in fact cakes are very healthy but chips should be taken within limits. When a child is given a well balanced diet an occasional treat of chips, fries and burgers will not harm them

Yes. That was a slip. Vegetables especially Leafy, Green veggies like Spinach are equally important for Child's health. These are very helpful  in promoting good vision and strengthening immune system,

it is true that nutritious food will lead to all round development but it is no guarantee that the child's behaviour will be appropriate. Behaviour controlling factors are other than food. Linking the two is rather misleading.

In the study conducted by University of Pennsylvania, it was known that a well balanced rich nutritious food given to children, who are below   3 years will have impact on both Health and behavioural patterns.

he impact of nutritious food on children below 3yrs would be more I think its because children till 3yrras are not much aware WA is right and wrong. So if their behavior is changed or moulded in better way the similar behavior would remain over the years. Hence nutritious food has good impact over the behavior

Nutritious feeding  of solid and liquid food, if started when the child is below 3 years, certainly lays foundation to the behavioral pattern of the child. We know Nutritious food develops the overall health of the Child. from this study, its proved, that there will be a marked difference in the Child's behaviour towards parents, and others who are closely related to the child. These behavioral changes will be visible gradually over a period in future.

I would agree with @vijay that the connection between nutritious food and good behavior may be marginal and  is also dependent on other relative factors like family background and environment. The studies may have some results but it is not absolute ! I have read several articles on the subject online and they point out that it is more to do with disciplined eating and eating habits that is also part of other behavioral patterns adopted during childhood . All of this would certainly add up to good social behavior but not any one factor !
