Bigger contingent does not mean more medals. What is really needed is more focus on training and practice and not on needless politics and trying one-upmanship over each other, which is what often A seen in the Indian teams.

Absolutely! We being the second largest populated nation in the world should be sending a very large number of players, but does that make sense ? The players are not even supplied with proper shoes and sports gear nor given  coaching facilities that is appropriate for a game of that stature. With all that when we see the enthusiasm of our sportsmen you feel proud of them. So, instead of expecting medals or any other laurels we shd be happy if they better their performance and cone up to the standard of other participants

Dipa Karmakar Makes History. She is the First Indian to reach Finals in the Gymnastics. This is the purpose of  a big Contingent, IOC found many Indian First timers had very good track record.. Even though Deepa was a first timer, the selectors had seen a promise in her performance. I think , we will be hearing more such suprises in the gays to come.

Yes facilities to Indian sportsmen are not appropriate. Saniya Mirza struggle in her first match although she loose it.

Yesterday was a Day of disappointments.  Abhinav Bindra, the ace shooter who won a Gold in Beijing Olympics for India, was defeated  in the Finals. India was knocked by Britain in Men's Hockey. In  Women's Hockey, Great Britain out classed India.

In Tennis, World No 1, Serbian player, Djokovic, lost in the very first round..

For India there is a ray of hope in the form of Deepa Karmakar who had  gone to Finals in Artistic Gymnastics.

From all the above examples, it's evident that 'Nothing is for ever.' Seasoned players eating dust, rank new comers springing a surprise is not uncommon in any realm of Sports. Olympics is not an exception.

In mens hockey it was Germany that won against India not Britain... it almost looks as if we may win just the odd bronze medal  if at all

More than anything else, I felt very bad, when Abhinav Bindra lost the Bronze by a whisker.. Now it seems only hope left is Deepa Karmakar in Gymnastics.

True. I too thought India would win. But the German forward made a a Goal, just moments before the final whistle was blown

Leander Paes, saniya have already lost in tennis, all the TT players out in first round, Archery team out, top shooters including Bindra, out the only weight lifter could not lift the the minimum weight required in her three attempts. What do you think players mentioned above went there for gaining experience? They are enjoying undue advantage at the cost of poor tax payers because we do not have proper infrastructure and will power to gain anything but experience.  Deep a is fine but by her present record she will be at 7th spot at best.

I vehemently deny the Charge that the players went to Rio to gain experience. Even if  what you said is right, what about World No. 1 Tennis Player Djakovich's loss  both in Doubles and Singles ? How do you account for the defeat of  famous Williams Sisters  ? They had gone to gain experience to Rio ?

When we are not good at anything why are we so hopeful that our athletes who also emerge from the same system should win gold in Olympics. It is an unfair expectation. As far as Shobha De is concerned her comments are improper as it is a competition and the best will win. Her books have not won any literary prize so should we condemn her for writing trash novels. It is only a low system where persons like De rise to the top.

That only proves my point Tennis Player Djakovich lost because there was no money at stake. He gives his hundred percent when money is there to grab. same is the case with Paes and sania. They do better only when smell of money gives them kick.

I agree with You. It's a Competition of the highest order, where the Best of the Best will compete for the honors. Which why, the Motto of Olympics says, It's not the win that matters. It's the participation that Matters.

I think I should go and participate in next Olympics, I assure you that there is no way people can stop me from coming last in every event I participate in.

Congratulations.  It's ok if you don't get any Medal. Still you are considered as Great. As you took part in Olympics.

We are only good at exchanging banalities and thus do not win much in any sporting event including Olympics.

Watch Men;s Hockey going on now. India is leading by 2 -0 against Argentina.

Go ahead. I'm watching the match. Very interesting.

Actually we are easily satisfied people who become  happy with the title of Olympian. We do not think beyond that and as everyone is saying we go there for gaining experience- I am not sure what kind of experience  Bindra, Sania, Paes and company gained in their last Olympics. Government's duty ends with announcement of 2 crore for winners because they know there will be hardly anyone that will claim it.

Olympics are not every body' s Cup of tea. It's only Creme de la Creme can win a Medal in Olympics. Olympics are the ultimate.
