Some days ago I posted my first question and it has been answered too. Regarding it I want to know that below each answer, 'accept the answer' is written. What should I do? What is its purpose? I have posted a question for the first time so a bit confused. Hope to receive some help! Thanks in advance.

The purpose of ACCEPT button is, it enables the questioner to select the Best answer. I think I made myself  clear

That will close the question and the answer you accepted will get points for that.

Actually, I accepted an answer and then it shows 're-open question'? I am still confused. What should I do now? Am I by any chance demeaning any answer by accepting one? Just tell me, what exactly I need to do when a question is answered? Thanks in advance.

If you wish to continue it then reopen it and if you can't do it yourself let someone else do it for you.

I am not getting it. What is to be re-opened? kindly tell me what is to be done once an answer his received from a fellow user. Do you mean to say that once I accept an answer then nobody will be able to answer any more? Please explain it very clearly. Sorry for not being able to understand the point.

it means that you got your answer of your question which you posted. And you accepted that, as the answer of your question.

Once you have selected the best answer for your question that closes that particular topic. In case you wish to reopen it you can do that but I will suggest you to forget it and ask another matching question.
