Since our childhood we have been taught that India is a secular country. But when we get the experience of our practical life, everything looks false.

From the child birth certificate to filling the government job form, everywhere your cast and religion identity will be asked why? If we are one then what is the need to ask such questions that too in a government form?

Recently the way beef matter become a political issue says all the truth about our political parties and leaders. No one looked to bring some solution to this sensitive issue instead everyone got busy to make their vote bank stronger.

What they want to achieve in creating such big gap between people of India? Can we call them secular leader of secular India?

Political leaders do not have any other view except building and strengthening their Vote Banks. And one thing about our political I want to add is, they divide the country on caste basis and create caste based rivalries. The more they are successful in this endeavor, the more, the political parties reap the benefits. In this process only the people are the losers.

Indian people are secular but our politicians are definitely not secular..All the forms and certificates are made by governmental agencies controlled by the political parties and the constitution which again is political. With the kind of self centered politicians we have today, everything gets blown out of proportion and the media too in its own way dds fuel to the fire by highlighting such issues unnecessarily ..

Media gives unnecessary exposure to such regular happenings about which all are aware. Then it's the business of the media. And people are responsible for showing extraordinary interest towards such news items. Practically everything is being controlled by the politicians who are not secular. If they are secular how can they build their vote Banks ?

First I want to clear that secular Indian does not mean no religion. All citizens of India have right to follow their religion. In India politics is profession not service of the nation. Power is drugged. Our politicians are addict of facilities they enjoying. They never like to quit these. An addict person can do any evil to meet their needs. Laloo Prasad in on bail, his behavior is like most honest person. Secularism is noting for politicians. They have one point agenda, power and only power. Word secularism is ladder for them to get the power. Most of politicians are scrupulous.

We all know politicians are selfish. They look after themselves and their kith. Only then they think of interests of the country. But even this also is very rare. The entire clan of politicians in general are selfish in nature. It's greediness on our part to expect selfless services from this clan.

As @Anil said, Secularism does not mean ‘No Religion’. It refers to treating all religions alike. Everyone has the freedom to believe in his own religion, because every human is unique. And there is no wonder if there is 1 billion religions in India. But the thing is that nobody has the right to say that only their religion is right or only their beliefs are right, because there is no specific yardstick to decide right and wrong. But what is happening in our country is a political drama. This drama continues in our political arena for years. All political parties are equally responsible for the ugly situation of our country.

In a bid to stay in power, politicians do not hesitate even to sell their mothers. If there is an option to choose between Power and People, Politicians lean towards Power. This is the condition in India and we all know about it. Wasting our breath on such routine things is meaningless.

yes its true that India is a secular country but because of some political leader this seems to be wrong. Some leader opposite the meaning of secular country, their only intension is to collect more and more vote from people by supporting their community only.

We all know about the characteristics f an Indian politician. They are like chameleons suiting to the occasion. And we also know this trait was there and will be there. No use of making a hue and cry over this regular feature  which are prevalent everywhere.

In India the politicians have changed the meaning of secularism. To please their vote bank, they abuse majority and show their sympathy towards minority.(actually they don't care for majority or minority, they only care for themselves). In this recent case also politicians unnecessarily given statements on sensitive issue and tried show their sympathy towards their vote bank.

The mess they have made of the issue is honestly appalling ! One of the SP MPs wants the UN to intervene and the others have all jumped into the bandwagon and issuing statements left right and center.I feel that the election in Bihar too has  an impact because the politicians want to get some mileage out of this issue.

These politicians have divided our country between communities. To please their vote bank every politician is trying to abuse other community and try to show sympathy towards vote bank. One is trying to attract people from majority and other is trying to attract people from minority and in this run they are creating distances between the communities.

Well said. One is trying to win the majority and the other from minority. Is it not clearly visible from the behaviour of the politicians, how they can stoop down to stay in power ? And immoral deeds are no more new to the electorate. But the pity is electorate is being lured with money and a plethora of incentives. So this is a vicious circle. There is no escape from it.

Secularism does not imply that you are irreligious.  This simply means that religion is your personal issue and this should not interfere with your official functions.  Our leaders can also observe religious practices in personal life.  But while performing official functions, they should keep religion away.  Secularism means that state has no religion. But citizens have religion.  Secularism also means religious freedom which means that every one is free to follow any religion or not follow any.  Personally, I don't follow any religion and am atheist.

Owing to vote bank politics, secularism has been distorted. For many leaders, secularism means fooling followers of all religions. so when you go to Muslim majority area, wear Muslim cap and visit mazar. when in Hindu majority area, appease Hindu feelings by visiting temple.

In a hilarious manner, you expressed your view about  how drastically our politicians distort and disfigure Secularism to suit their purpose. But sir, I'm afraid how long this be fooling the both followers and the Nation will go. I sincerely feel the electorate should be educated before anything else to save this Country.

After all People power is the supreme and ultimate.

Secularism means respecting all religions. While you respect own religion you should also respect others religion. But politicians have changed this meaning in India. Due to vote bank politics, politicians want that people fight on the basis of religion.

Yes, our country is very much secular and so the people of this country. Every one have their own freedom of following their own belief but due to dirty politics the peace between people get lost and this is here the main problem starts.

In Delhi AAP government propose to enhance their salary and allowances 4 times. They prove how greedy they are .

Very true Anil. Are these politicians show the same interest towards Aam Aadmi's welfare and raise their standard of living ? For name sake the party's name is Aam Aadmi party. Naam Bada Darshan Thoda. Double standards. It's the condition everywhere in this country.
