Ever since UN declared "Yoga Day" on June 21 every year, Yoga started gaining ground all over the World.

Now, Yoga has been recognised as a Sport. For this category, the ministry will fund the National championships, one international event in India per year and a maximum of one foreign exposure each for seniors and juniors.

At last, Yoga has got it's due place.

No doubt, there is official patronage. Yet it doesn not appear that this can be accepte as sports. It depends more on people rather than state patronage.  People still favor cricket as sport and gym as exercise.

Who can say now ? let's see how things go over a period. The forgotten Kabaddi has been recognized and now it's also as popular as Cricket After the introduction of indian premier league of Kabaddi.

Yoga is not a sport so one wonders whi it has been put under that category, it is a fitness routine like gym and aerobics ...

Yoga is more than a fitness routine. It's also a  therapy. The intention behind Introducing Yoga as a game is to popularise it like kabaddi. Unlike other games yoga is both a game and a therapy. I very much welcome this move.

Yoga is definitely not a sport. It is a practice of physical exercises prescribed to keep the body fit. And how will it generate millions of jobs is not clear. what is clear that those who are promoting yoga are in fact promoting a agenda. Yoga is an excuse.

Millions of Jobs are created through Yoga coaching centers . Like Sports academies teach Games and sports.

But millions is not a small figure. In the last 15 months the new govt. is struggling and has failed to generate even the 10 million jobs it promised in its manifesto. Let us be realistic and not get carried away. Yoga is not a sport and that is the reality.

Agreed. Millions is not a small number. That's how when a new programme is launched a bit of exaggeration will be used.

Vijay, I request you to express your views in clearterms. What I understand is another empty promise. I don't think so. Wait and see.

I am all for promoting yoga. But the manner in which it is being appropriated by a particular school of thought and projected is what makes its purpose doubtful. Such acts  in the past have resulted in not getting fulfilled. Hope it is clear now.

Clear. But Yoga International Day was started by the UN with India's initiative. However such programmes are going to be HIT are not has to be seen.

Another jhumla by the jhumla party !!!!

We have got used to Jumlas in last 68 years so one more will not hurt us much. However I agree with everyone Yoga is way of life but cannot be placed in sports category.

It can be a sport too. like gymnastics. Another advantage if Yoga is made a sport there will be an opportunity to create more jobs like Sports Academies which are creating Jobs

When people are able to practice Yoga without any teacher , there is little scope for job creations.. And even if that is true it will not be in great numbers ! The idea no doubt is to encourage and popularise Yoga but they should be a little more practical about implementing it .

Nothing is possible without a practical approach. Its success will e known over a period of time. It's just introduced. Experts are there to examine the feasibility part of making Yoga as a sport.

In fact there are so many free coaching camps by yoga gurus and their followers there are too few chances a person will spend money on learning something by making a payment for that... unless of course our government decides to appoint yoga teachers in all schools.

You are talking about institutions which teach Yoga. But  for coaching Yoga as a Game, we do not have any coaching academies. Like many academies are there to teach Badminton and cricket academies to teach cricket ( Sehwag is running one). Now coming to the point to teach Yoga as a game Yoga academies can be introduced which offer employment to many people.
