UK school bans girls from wearing short skirts

These changes in dress code are aimed atallowing the students to remain committed to learning, instead of having the added pressure of deciding what to wear every morning. But the school is not following Indian culture or to that matter any culture..There is a purpose behind introducing the Dress code.

Sober dress and minimal make up for senior students in all girls school in this mentioned article. School insists that this introduction is in line with Steve Jobs, philosophy of simple dress and concentrate more.  Interesting, it is same in India but people make hue and cry, west tilting towards east and east is staying robust with western culture. 

I agree. I agree with the head mistress's view on the dress code. It is a policy matter of the school. There is nothing wrong with the introduction of Dress code.

Normally a specific Dress code is imposed in a school with some definite purpose as a part of the protocol of the institution. In a school, every student is equal and there is nothing wrong in following the dress code. East or West, discipline is an important factor in schools.

Basically, human culture is same. Decency, courtesy, humility, cooperation, respect, love all are common to humanity. Decency in wearing dress is also an essential requirement. In India also, nobody complains so much about dress code as for discrimination against female only. Boys are allowed to wear jeans but not girls. such things only invite unfavorable reaction from women.

Exactly. With a purpose to implement a particular dress code to inject a sense of discipline in the students, I don't see any reason, why such measures are being frowned at.

In India most schools and colleges already have a dress code so there is no question of questioning the authorities...A common dress code is necessary and part of the discipline that goes with education...I had it when I was a student but on Saturdays we were allowed to wear anything and it was eagerly looked forward to..

Yes. School dress code is not a new thing in many states of India. On Saturdays some schools follow a white all dress. In some a prescribed dress code is followed.

It's strange to see UK school following our culture and that's good as may be then the students may concentrate more on studies ;-)

UK  school following Indian culture is not mentioned anywhere in the link article. The poster has mentioned in the intro line that i UK school followed Indian culture is a wrong thing. Introduction of Dress code is a part of the policy matter of the school..

wearing simple sober dress and minimal makeup is the part of our culture and short skirts and different makeups is imported from western culture. We Indians are adopting every thing from western culture, though we cant say that western culture is bad but we should import good habits from western people like how clean they live, keep surroundings clean, live in well mannered way, but should not replace everything of our culture, like wearing short dresses, leaving our morals and values.

Irrespective of the cultures and their origin, a good thing that enshrines our lives should be taken and use it to our advantage.

The single point here is that the school is not the coeducation, it is girls only, so there must be some other aspects in consideration for this as it seems some strange reason given by the school, as it is one of the costliest boarding school.
