Farmers committing suicide are cowards- minister

Recently, Indian Government singed treaty with Iran to procure cheaper fertiliser to be sent directly to India and this could impact growth of agricultural sector. 

Even some state governments too started implementing measures to boost the agricultural sector, inorder to put an end to farmer suicides.

There are varied views on suicide. Some are of the opinion, human life is endowed by the creator. One cannot take away his life. Only the creator has the right to take away the life. And according to IPC suicide is a punishable offense.

 

I think it's no more punishable offense as per new rules who attempt committing suicide, but one  must take his family into account before choosing the easy way out. 

 Indeed a family should be the first thing to be thought before taking such an extreme step. Also when the government is not favouring to the extent a farmer should be favoured, farmers themselves should form groups to work against the policies of the government or find a way out like having self help groups or coming up with an idea that will help them.

 

I agree , in fact there should be help available to them when they are having financial trouble in the form of debt management and how to get over it....There are co operatives no doubt, which function in a very formal manner scaring the farmers rather than make them feel comfortable and ask for help and suggestion. 

 

 

Whatever be it suicide should not be done by farmers as per IPC it is considered as crime, the minster tried to say so not minimizing the impact of farmers psychology but the so called media jumped on to it to make an issue, one should find is there single crop failure is the reason for suicide. Could these suicides be stopped as all these are done probably in close rooms. 

Treating Suicide as crime according to IPC is no more valid. And this has been revealed by Sunil, our moderator in the earlier part of this discussion.

 Indeed the farmers themselves should be in the co-operatives and they should understand the system and it should be done in the way they are most pleased. MK Gandhi said "India lives in its villages" and these people who toil hard under red hot sun should be given the paramount importance and utmost respect, also a friendly and approachable talks must be used.

 

 

This country owes its gratitude to the ANNA DATA , the food provider to the nation. It's now the urgent need to give the farmer his due place.

To my mind the very basic problem that our farm sector faces has been glossed over which is explosion of population and consequent fragmentation of agricultural holding. We have to take a hard look at the fact that stares us in the face that this sector accounts for the largest number of unemployed people who are seemingly employed but are drag on productivity. This is known as 'disguised unemployment' in economic parlance. This burgeoning numbers have no access to quality education and employment which creates a vicious cycle engulfing the psyche of our rural folks.

Most of farm lands owned by big and rich farmers and only meagre part is controlled by poor farmers who became bonded labor on their own land and that might be the reason for it. 

There is not a single reason for the farmer's suicides. Urbanization, occupation of fertile lands for the sake of development are some of the reasons for the farmers' dreary condition.

Still am surprised by the number of suicides does by farmers are these numbers genuine as it is always difficult to grasp the amount of suicides occuring, I might be wrong with this perception. 

It's clear political parties manipulate the facts. if  One is from the same party, he will dismiss the stats as fiction. If its otherwise stats are multiplied.

Sucide per se is an act of cowardice, but it should not be stated as such as it looks insensitive. We must look deeper why farmers commit suicide in India even after the so called freedom of 67 years. Obviously something is rotton and  perhaps the so called democracy may have a hand in it.

No doubt people who are coward commit suicide but at least minister should understand the emotions of the farmers too.

Truth must comes out and as I hope there should be not similar incidents like that of Pipli live the movies which perhaps showed the real cause of farmer's suicide. 

We are seeing the tragic state of affairs of the farmers. There is a need to change the farmers lives by waiving off the debts and supplying free seeds and fertilizers. This move certainly bring a change and the suicides will be controlled.

Education minister is in Amethi, and would be creating insurance for 5000 affected farmers and would be giving the first year interest for them. 

This govt is bent upon bettering the farmer's plight. There are many farmer related measures in the offing.
