Our legal system is based on British pattern. Obviously our legal system is nt responsible for various ills in the society. It is the social and religious mindset that trats women as inerior to men. The feudal values still are prevalent. The law enforcing authorites and the other extra judicial authorities like khap panchayats also share the feudal and orthodox values.

Violence against womankind is more in cities than in villages in India. The report gives an impression that it is specific to India only. It is a global disaster seen in most of the countries around the world. This gender-based affliction prevails in human society due to the queerness of human ego, alcoholism, insecure legal systems, etc.

We read about such crimes, domestic violence, and child abuse, on a regular basis, in fact child abuse and girls being raped or molested is on the rise, but sadly the lax attitude of law makers is not getting any better. No stringent measures are being taken to put an end to this such crimes. Until we have stringent laws in place..such crimes will continue.
I do agree that domestic violence is found everywhere in the world. This is partly because of biological differences that exist, mainly physical strength and the age old belief that men are superior because of this ne aspect...But, to change this mindset it is not easy , will probably take centuries !

Yes, true..it will take ages before we see a society free of any domestic violence. Also, women who suffer from physical violence can complain..at the least, but what about those who suffer mental torture at the hands of their in laws and husband..because it is difficult to prove.

We cannot find much difference in future if we did not realize the value of women and taken the steps protecting the women now itself. If we take the step now itself then only it should take centuries to protect. In old generation also the violence continued but due to uneducated women did not find the law points during that time. Until people should realize the value of women these crime will continue. Every time we cannot expect some leaders will born and fight against for women violence. It is the people's responsibility and they should think and act wisely.
It has to come from grassroots and women esp mothers have a great role to play and so do teachers since they shape the mind of the youngsters. I see mothers being openly partial or differentiating between ssons and daughters and asking the boy to act like a man when a woman tries to be smart ( the moment a woman stands up for her right , she is considered too smart for her own good ) ...We need to introspect and see where we have gone wrong in bringing up such a irresponsible and self centered male population...
I do think that we all need to wake up and thrash the men who even beat their wives. Wife beating cannot have a place in a decent society. Men cannot say that they have a private life.
No private life can be above law. So, let us take the law into our own hands. There is nothing wrong with neighbors giving a good thrashing of such husbands. Apart from this, the police also needs to be chip in, arrest such men, and put them behind bars at least for a month. The laws should be amended and the men should pay hefty fines such as one hundred thousand rupees for every bit of thrashing. The money paid to the court can be transferred straight to the account of the wife, without the knowledge of the husband.
