One can see a changing trend in the way womens role is defined and shown in ads and serials...While, earlier it was the trend to portray women as every tearful, obedient ladies of the house ready to put up with just about everything her husband did , now opposite is the case. They are all fuming and fretting and plotting at the drop of a hat and ordering their husbands or b/fs to do this or that ( Prestige ad with abhishek and aishwariya and so many others) ...Honestly, cant we have a balance? Do we need to do things in extreme?
These kinds of ads are actually shown to show that women are superior to men....but on a practical level we see the role of women has yet to undergo a sea change. Women of every class have no doubt become more independent..but since the difference and change has to be shown probably that is why the balance we are expecting is missing. It will take time to strike a balance and show the same in ads and any other field. Hope we see more balance in the future.
Financial independence does not mean being assertive....There is no purpose served by being dominating and bossy and this is true of both sexes.Unless there is give and take no relationship is going to work, so personally I feel that this kind of a depiction will have a negative impact on the society at least to some extent !
Sadly, this was the on-going trend with men, who were the primary bread winners so far..but with the growing no.of earning women this role is getting transformed. It is a bitter truth that with money comes power- even in a family! But I agree there should be a balance, both sexes be shown working hand in hand both within a family and at their workplaces, responsibilities should be divided. However, there are home makers who are bossy and working women who are meek and docile, here financial independence doesn't play any role.
