There has been unending debates, rumors and allegations about this issue and the 3 concerned parties have been slinging mud at each other.Shiela Dixit for once came up with a sensible suggestion that the party with the largest number of seats , BJP should be given a chance to form the government. I too feel that politicians should think of the nation as a whole and come together to support the party in forming a government with outside support so that we don't have to spend huge amounts of public money on another election. In fact BJP too should be willing to take support openly rather than engage in behind the doors horse trading and form a government with support and advise from the two other parties ! What do you all think ?

Very true...Sheila Dixit for once has shown that she can think on sensible lines, but will the others do so???? That is the question!
As a matter of fact, the question of majority is decided in the house. Governor should invite leader of the largest party to form government. He will have to prove majority in house. I feel that all parties shoud adopt a constructive approach and provide Delhi a govrnment. The Congress may not find it convenient to support the government. But as no other govrment is possible, Congress may abstain from voting on confidence motion and not vote against. However if other parties decide to oppose the government, the largest party wil lose the confidence motion after which there will be no alternative other than to hold fresh elections.

However, the fact remains that no party has majority. In absence of coalition or some understanding between two parties, a gvernment can survive only if there are defections and horse trading. Sheila dixit's views are not based on facts and these are mere wishful thoughts.
Amazing to hear a meaningful suggestion from Shiela Dixit.. Quite unbelievable.

Yes, agree with you..as a rule the party with the majority seats should form the govt..but in the lack of it...BJB should be given a chance.

That the BJP should be given chance to form the government has been facing several controversies for some time. But the most amazing part is the suggestion comes from a hard core Congress leader Shiela Dixit.
There have been several cases where state governments were formed although there was no required numbers...In the interest of the nation and people BJP should be let to form the government and end this continuous abuse on the media by all concerned....Cant the politicians think beyond their own self interest for once ?

LG was convinced that BJP can form the government. That's why he recommended it to the president. Though the case is in the Apex case filed by AAP ALLEGING LG is favoring BJP the government has admitted that the efforts to form the government is in force. Let's see what happens in the coming few days.

On basis of sheer numerical strength of political parties, LG has no reason for conviction that BJP or any other party can form government. If such conviction were correct, long ago BJP would have formed government. His recommendation is for other reasons that need no explanation. In case BJP is invited to form government, confidence motion cannot be passed unless the parties change their stand or there is defection/ horse trading that AAP apprehends.
Previously there have been minority governments in Bihar ( 1990 and 2000) and both Rajasthan and Mahrashtra have had minority governments in the past as well..Similarly Haryana and Punjab too have had post electoral minority gvernments in the past, so one wonders why all the fuss now ? Has the Congress forgotten its own past and is showing its usual double standards that too after having single digit number of seats in the state..

This is pure mathmatics and no fuss is there. Let BJP form government on invitation of Lt. Governor. This will be minority government. a minority government is sustained only if othr parties cooperate- may be indirectly- by abstaining from voting on confidence motion and money bills. If BJP can make such arrangement, okay. If they engineer defections or indulge in horse trading, well let them do. But then they cannot claim that they have higher moral standards and differ from others. There is nothing more and nothing less. This is so simple.

The same was the case before and probably will be so now as well...But in the interest of the nation BJP should form a government since it is the party with the largest number of seats and falling short of just 5 seats..

Am surprised former Delhi CM's verbal bully which bounced Congress but what could be the reason. As famous Odia dramatist in one of his absurd drama 'Athacha Channakya' (If Channakya) told in politics no one is enemy forever and no on is friend forever.

okay. then they will have to again say that they engineered defection in 'natinoal interest' and horse trading is okay in 'national interest'. The government will fall if other parties oppose them. This is sheer and simple arithmetic. May be Congress does not understand 'national interest'. For AAM AADAMI party, Congres and BJP both are corrupt and villains and agents of Ambani and Adani. 'Plain facts' go against the perception of so called BJP linked national interest. 'National interest' may demand that BJP form government even where they have nil or negligible presence. Parliamentary politics is game of numbers only.

There is absolutely no question here of nil or negligible presence here since BJP has the largest number of seats , and also all the seats in lok Sabha ..

Despite largest number, BJP canot form government in Delhi without nginering defections, may be in 'national interest'. I dd not talk of 'negligible or no presence' in Delhi. If BJP govrnment alone can look after national interest, that party should be allowed to form government eve where presence is negligible- viz. Orissa, Tamilnadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Tripura.
It is not a matter of 'national interest'. It is a matter of numbers and BJP has no numerial strength to form governmet in Delhi without some immoral action of defections and horse trading. This is a very simple fact and needs no discussion or elucidation.
We need to have the common sense to realise that when parties become stubborn by not offering support to the party with the largest number of seats , the election commision or LT or whoever is responsible should automatically merge all the seats and form the government with the largest party having more say in the formation etc...This makes sense and puts an end to horse trading etc which has become the norm now by all parties ...

The LG has no authority of the kind you mention. The political parties have their own discretion and they see 'national interest' in their own way and not as one party or its supporters may like. The largest party in Delhi can form government only by negotiating with some other parties to either support or from abstain from voting. There is no other way. However horsetrading and defection only are left which if resorted to can only and only tarnish the image of the largest party.
