The Tamilnadu government has made a law that o club can refuse entry to somebody wearing Dhoti. However no club ever bans any particular dress. What they do is that a particular dress is prescried for some occasion. Naturally if the prescribd dress is trouser and shirt with tie, the members will not appear in Dhoti. When a non mmber is invited, it is okay not to insist on any partcilar dress for him.
Moreover interfering with dress culture of clubs is similar to policy of prohibition. People should be allowed te liberty to dcide what they eat or wear. The dress and other rules are internal matter of clubs with which iterference by government is certainly undsirable aand may prove counter productiove.

It's nothing but adamant and eccentric behavior of TN government. Don't they have any other problems except protecting Dhoti?

Whatever the case may be..there was so much haullabaloo about this attire..it is good that finally there is a solution to this problem. At least the TN govt. can now focus on some important issue rather than fussing about "dhoti".

It's fanaticism . Also diverting the public from main and essential issues. Making mountains out of molehills. A typical political ploy.
The issue came into focus because of some rules where a Dhoti clad person was denied entry into a club and there was an apeal against this....I personallly am with Jayalalitha with this since it is nothing but high handed behavior where your own regional wear is being insulted and the steps taken and the amendment is welcome .... On the one hqnd you speak about nationalism and go on to insult your own national dress whch is worn by men in all 4 southern states !
In thge relevant case, the invitee was not a club member and it was not ncessary to insist on dress code. But this is not such a big issue as is being made out. Let them ponder why Dhoti Kurta is not the uniform of defence personnel, police, Railway staff and so on. Charity begins at home. Would it not be better that Jai Lalitha begin Dhoti Kurta with uniform of state government peons and others who wear uniform.
Incidentally, sale of dhoti is declining in Tamilnadu as well. This is not popular dress. But this is okay for religious ceremony and othr sacrd occasions. Those who wish to wear Dhoti may do so. But where some uniform or dress code is prscribd, one must go by that code.
Moreover, Dhoti is banned no where. simply prcribinh a dress code does not involve insult to any dress- be this be dhoti or whatever.
